Klunking noise during slow speed left turn??

I felt and heard it while turning into a parking space and while leaving my driveway. Both times were left turns.

Any ideas?

A friend guessed sway bar bushing.

It may help to know that the car has a few HPDE days on it.

Thanks,

:)

To me a clicking noise is sharper than a klunking noise or a klunking noise is duller than a clicking noise.

Mine is like something shifting position rather than a metal agains metal contact noise.

Thanks...

Lift the carpet behind the driver's / passengers seat. Press on the sheet metal. This happened to me on slow turns. The sheet metal pops in and out as the car flexes, causes a clunking sound.

My mechanic welded a thin support on top of the sheet metal and the sound disappeared. I've also heard of people who have filled the area behind the sheet metal with an expanding foam like Great Stuff.

Wow ! Cool responses.

I like the one about the panels. When I hit a bump I believe that is what I hear and now that I think about it, the sounds are about the same. I will check it out.

Yes, I've checked the lug nuts.

This site is neat.............

Thanks,

:)

I have a clunk when I turn my wheel as well. It seems to be happening most when I turn right, but the other night i sat there and turned the wheel both ways, and it did a clunk left as well.

It is not from the back on my car. I can also feel the clunk through the steering wheel. At first I thought it was just rocks under my tire, but I dont think it is.

I have more of a scrapping noise, and it happens whenever I go into a parking lot, and the uphill is too steep, turning either right or left, doesnt matter, I heard a very weird clunking/scrapping noise, metal to metal noise, seems from the transmission/differential/transfer case, lurching the car foward, like when bogging off the line. Very weird, but I learnt to live with it.

Check the inside of your front wheels to see if they are rubbing on a control arm or something. Mine has rub marks from when I turn the wheel as far as it will go under certain conditions. My Corvette alignment guy could'nt find anything wrong when he aligned it. I just always remember to not turn it until it locks - but almost.

This could be a loose tie rod end...
