LGM longtube weld question??

973 Views 8 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  trs
Just got my LGM longtubes in and the rearmost primary tube on the passenger side has a weld all the way aroung the tube about 3 inches out from where it bolts to the motor. This may be normal but none of the 7 other tubes have any extra welds between the motor and the merge area.

Thanks

Mine are still in the box, sitting in our spare bedroom. I just unpacked them and I have the same weld as you describe.

Thanks for checking Chuck. It must be normal for them. I do not understand why they would put a weld in that area of the tube which seems like such a high heat stress area of the header. Not saying it would ever fail but a weld is typically not quite as durable as the original tube and none of the other tubes have such a weld.
Based on what I've heard about the quality of the LG's I'm not too worried about it. I can barely see the weld, I probably would not have noticed it if you hadn't asked.

I bet Lou wouldn't mind explaining the purpose of the weld if you called and asked. He may even respond to your post. I see several other posts from him pertaining to questions about the LG headers.

Have you installed yours yet?
Hey guys - fairly new Z owner and just starting some research on headers. Is this the preferred system available from Westcoast Corvette?Spoke to a gentleman named from there the other day and he sounded very knowledgable

Lot of good Headers on the market. LG longtubes are the best IMO. Shop around the various vendors for prices. Buying direct form LG Motorsports may be your best option. :z:

.
No, I have not installed mine yet. I am considering the Jet Hot 2000 ceramic/metallic coating first. I cannot decide whether to coat them or not before the install.
LG header quality is industry standard because it is mfr. for LGM by BORLA!

And this is common knowledge - I don't think BORLA would want to compromise their brand image with second-rate product.
Appreciate comments.Appears the Westcoast Corvette set are also long tube design and a bit cheaper - any of you California Z owners got any thoughts.
PS - took new F1's off today and replaced with Toyo T1S's - what an amazing improvement in every way.
