Yes, I finally decided to modify the License Plate holder to allow Air to flow thru the front fascia. It may not be pretty, but I am expecting approx 50 RWHP. (insert sarcasm here).

Yeah I know. But I dont own a dremel. I used a Drill, and some Tin Snips!!!

Served its purpose. Can always clean it up later!

Ha Ha yeah no biggie, nice work on the outer plate. I didnt used to have a dremmel either, I eventually just got tired of borrowing my friends all the time so I bought one. Cant tell you number of times I have used it since....

Very nice work. I have seen the full cut out front plate but never the half plate like you did. Unique. What did you use for screen material?

Does anyone know if you can buy a replacement insert that is already modified with the hole and the screen. I would like to open mine up for better inter-cooler efficiency but I don't really want to modify my existing insert.

Nice work... On another note, some of us are obligated by law to run a front plate. What do you guys think about drilling hundreds of tiny holes in the license plate itself? I think you would still be able to reads the characters from a distance, yet have improved airflow through the holes.....:-?

Interested to see how much difference it makes in your temps. It should provide quite a bit of increase in airflow.

Just as some of us are obligated to run a front plate by law, the law also prohibits "modifications" made to the license plate it self.
That in itself will get you a Summons.

I dont know if "Tiny" holes would be significant enough to provide the proper air flow to help keep temps down.

So am I.
I was at the track this past weekend and my temps were lower then usual. Oil never went above 210ish, and Coolant was steady at 180. During the Summer Track days, they both are easily 30 degrees hotter. And thats with an Accusump System , Oversized Radiator, Oil Cooler, and some other stuff I cant seem to recall.

So I guess the ambient temps were a lot lower too? Which means you don't really know how much difference is due to your new airflow mod? It would be nice to have a "back-to-back".

FYI: I've just been re-reading "All Corvettes Are Red". (Man I love that book) The Corvette is a bottom breather to improve the drag coefficient, and the engineers acknowledged a trade-off with the air flow through the radiator, etc. So this mod likely does improve the air flow for cooling at the expense of a bit more drag. If I open mine up I'll do back to back 1/4 miles runs next spring and compare IAT (my inter-cooler sits behind the license plate and IAT climbs maybe 20F in the 1/4 right now) and trap speeds to see what if any difference occurs.

I installed the Plate Mod when I got home from the Track Event. So we are going to have to wait until next season to see if it makes any difference.

I was running the car hard this weekend and noticed that the temps were remaining steady and low. Oil was hanging out in the low 190s and Anti-freeze never went above 178. Mind you this was all Highway driving and not beating the piss out of it on the track. But it was "spirited". Behind the license plate is a BPP Vortex Ram Air CAI system. So the Radiator Shroud has a nice 16inch by 16inch square cut out of it to allow air to the filter.
