I recently got back my used oil analysis from Blackstone Labs from my initial use of the now discontinued AMSOIL Series 2000 0w30 in my 06 CTS-V daily driver. The Series 2000 0w30 was replaced by the AMSOIL Signature Series Synthetic 0w30 which I plan to switch to on my next oil change.

For those interested in seeing how the AMSOIL performed as compared to my previous analysis using the factory fill Mobil 1 5w30, here is the data:

Re: LS CTS-V Used Oil Analysis - AMSOIL 0w30 vs Mobil 1 5w30

Could you maybe sum it up for us so we get the idea without having to go to another website and read the whole report? Thanks!

Re: LS CTS-V Used Oil Analysis - AMSOIL 0w30 vs Mobil 1 5w30

1st Column AMSOIL Series 2000 0w30/Oil Filter EAO32 3300 miles 3/8/08
2nd Column Mobil 1 5w30/AC Delco PF46 2856 miles 6/10/07
3rd Column Universal Lab Averages

Oil Life Monitor read 25% for both oil changes
Engine had 13,936 miles after the AMSOIL sample.

SUS Viscosity @ 210F 58.8 59.8 Range ~55-66
cSt Viscosity at 212F 9.87 10.15 Range ~9.1-11.6
Insolubles 1.3% 0.3% <0.6%

Primary wear metals are Aluminum, Iron, Copper and Lead. AMSOIL showed lower wear numbers for all of these, but some of this can be attributed to engine break-in. AMSOIL's Total Base Number or TBN was higher at 4.6 vs 3.6 for the Mobil 1 showing more life left. Both remained in grade for a 30 grade oil. Concern is that insolubles are up. This could be from the higher detergent levels (Calcium 3193 vs 2588) in the AMSOIL cleaning out some sludge in the engine that had built up in the first 10k miles. Won't know for sure until my next sample.
