I guess I could wait, but since engine work was planned and I am impatient I may have to take what I can get.

So there will be a 2002? I can't get any of the dealers around Dallas to admit it. I have had one deny it (same guy who wants to sell me a yellow Z-06 at 10K over, get this, because it is yellow). He said there won't be anything new until the anniversary edition in a couple of years. I now have something to mention to him when he calls tomorrow to see if I want to buy a marked-up (pricewise) z-06.

As well as they are selling I can't imagine GM only making it for one year.

The Z06 will be produced as long as the C5 last.
The 2002 will have a new engine RPO for it's 20 more hp.
The LS6 is a one year engine as it was in the early '70s so the 2001 Z06 will be rare on that point alone.(maybe rare is to strong a word)
New wheels for 2002 will also set the 2001 apart.

Zippy:

I would question the wisdom of trading in a just bought Z06 for an 02. You will take a bath on the depreciation, especially if you trade it in to a dealer. You got yours later in the model year, so you lose even more. For only 20HP it's not worth it unless you want to change colors or someother asthetic reason (wheels) etc.

As others have said, the real performance ##s won't be much different if at all. I think my car is putting out around 400HP right now, with the intake mods I have done (will know for sure later this year).

IMHO I can't see spending the extra $$$ just to have the "latest" car unless the HP and performance are significantly better.

I say why wait? In real terms, what's the big deal over 20 more horses? If you believe the cold air people, you can get that just by bolting on one of their systems. Unless you are a drag racer and worried about every 100th of a second, you won't feel any appreciable difference between 385 and 405 hp. I've driven a lot of vettes (including Zr1's), and the only time I've ever really noticed an appreciable difference on the street was when one car held a 70-100 or more hp advantage over another. Others claim 50 hp is noticable. But 20? I don't think so. Just my .02

Mrs. Zippy is right, going after every new little thing can be addictive, expensive and unfulfilling.

It is our understanding from a very good source that they will dyno at +20 RWHP over the 2001 Z06.

The stock intake box will be there for sure. My guess is with mods in cam profile, compression (better emissions), computer, and exhaust flow making the extra numbers, there will be room to add the same 23.3 RWHP at redline we saw on TOME's Z06 and Ted Carli's Z06 with the Race Version of the Halltech TRIC. The SideWinder will be dyno and track tested this month.

Time will tell.

The SideWinder all Carbon Fiber Intake for the underhood crowd, will be ready by April 1st. It comes with our Carbon Fiber MAG, Carbon Fiber SideWinder for direct cold air from the drivers side, our exclusive Z850 or Z900 filter, and our new "Proflolactic" water repellent pre-filter.

The Proflolactic, is extra insurance for the extreme weather conditions that have even the underhood systems, breathing a lot of water. This "preventative" pre-filter affects performance very little, but removing it in nice weather is as easy as its name dictates.

Halltech is testing it now on our 2000 bottom breather.

Based on my sources months ago, the '02 will have 20hp and trq more than the '01 Z06. I believe from cam, exhaust manifold and PCM tuning. These changes would have been added in '01 but there were emissions problems that could not be solved in time for production.

The power increase should be noticeable, but for me in not nearly enough to change--especially if the top will not come off in 2002. With the new stereo, chromed wheels, dynamat, window tint, Halltech package and DRM package (still waiting for cam profile to be finalized), I already have some $$$$ invested.

Furthermore, assuming that only 20 crank hp is not enough (and it is not enough for me), the cars should be pretty close if not identical after heads and cam. (I am shooting for 400rwhp and 385+rwtrq without headers so I can pass emissions and avoid dealer questions). I am at about 355rwhp/trq. or so now.

So no trade for me unless we get much bigger news. Now, a 500hp/trq '03 Snake is somwhat tempting... .

mmorse--I used to agree with you. Unless a car displayed at least a good 50hp you wouldn't know the difference unless you were side-by-side in a race with the other car.

Then one day I dropped off my '01 Coupe at a dealer and took a ZO6 for a ride. I ordered my Coupe thinking that 35hp and different transmission gearing wouldn't make that much difference. I took the ZO6 for a ride primarily to reassure myself of that considering all of the glowing reviews the Z has received. My intent was not to buy a Z. Needless to say I was very impressed and now own that Z.

So will the '02's be that much better/faster? Hope not or I may be looking at another trade. If that happens will I regret trading for the '01 Z? Nah, cause I figure my Z will always be worth the extra $4k over a Coupe that I paid in trade difference.

I for one do not understand the obsession with needing 20 HP more than 385.

Understand even less the expensive mods for a few % gain???

I'm quite happy with my power--Stock!
