I had a deal put together with a friend but it has fallen thru. I have to give back the '04 with 3500mi, thats been in my garage for the last 3 weeks today. But on the bright side I have found a '03 today with 4500 mi for immediate sale $34,000. What are the diff between an '03 and '04 and do you think $34,000 is a good price.

If the 2003 was built late enough in the year there is no difference. The two running changes during 2003 were steel shift forks and FFS fuel system. Tell me the Vin number of the 2003 and I'll tell if they have them.

Whoops, I forgot about the shocks :thumb: :thumb:

$34000 is a bargain for an `03 with that mileage! You should be passing papers as we speak!

Good luck :zboobie:

I have an 03, and I know its the same from 02-04, as far as in general, but I heard the 04s have diffrent shocks, dont know if better are not since mines seen to be perfect, maybe someone else can illeborate, as far as looks between the 02-04s, the 03 has the only tad diffrence on the plus side, my 03 has the 50th corvette logos which look better, but that is a very small detail if it even matters, but I like it!

I also heard a rumor that when install aftermarket Cold Air Intake system, the computer have a more problem adjusting to the mod, its reads lean for longer therefore runs rich(something like that) I dont see how that is possible because I thought the computer and MAF and all that technical stuff was the same, maybe just a rumor ;) $34k with 4500 miles is a good deal, and Im cheap. I have 20k and I wouldnt sell it for $34k, but that's not because I could get more, is because I love it too much to sell it for $15k less then I paid 2.5 years ago. 4500 miles is low but you never know what it went through is those 4500 miles, it could be someone anxious to sell a beat up car, or maybe its a good car with someone desperate, not that $34k is that cheap ,its the fact that 4500 miles is low therefore "what's the reason someone who hardly drove the car wants to sell it?"

IT L GO, just curious is that, why the diffrent forks, but most of all why the diffrent Fuel system, what's wrong with mine?

Do a search on Sachs shocks and you find all kinds of info. I changed mine to the 2004 and I could only see a very slight improvement. Most folks like them and few have taken them off after the install.

03 got the steel shift forks, an upgrade from the 02 aluminum. They might be heavier but less often will you run into bent applications. The FFS fuel system was added after vin 114200 I believe. I've heard of a few problems with the halltech intake on the 04 throwing codes. If I remember right, it's because the 04 MAF was descreened.
$34000 for an 03 w/ 4500 miles. You should've already done your homework and been well aware what a good deal that is.

My situation is changing by the moment. What would you guys do?

1- My current deal that may or may not work='04 3500mi assume a 3year lease that is 1 year expired. So I have 32,500 miles for 2 years and I live in MI so it's stored atleast 5 months of the year. The payment is $495 and $2000 up front which is more like a deposit at this time. Now the catch, the guy bought it with the GM discount and Gm has changed the rules that one cannot transfer a lease with discount for 2 years. So he has tried to write an exception letter but will not be reviewed until atleast Friday? Anyone know how strict they are? This leads to my next situation

2-'03 4500 miles mint condition $34,000 from a friend who is trading in the car tomorrow. He cannot or will not wait until I hear on friday about #1.

What would you do? Back out of the first deal and lose $2000 and get a car for sure with the 03 or wait till friday and maybe get the 04 or get my 2000 back and have no car?

Quite a decision

You answered about the shocks, but do you know about the Fuel system you were talking about? It probably answers that rumor I heard about the 04s not adapting to CAI mods

Buy the `03. Assuming a lease can be a tricky business. BTW, I hope your friend realizes that if you assume his lease - that HE IS STILL RESPONSIBLE for the stream of lease payments if, for ANY reason, you fail to make payments or are LATE with payments - it will create a derogatory on HIS credit file!! I think you would be better served all around with the `03 - and then you own it! As opposed to a lease where you turn it in and you are left standing in your driveway with only a couple of oil stains as a memory...

Oh, if you lose $2000 you put down on the first deal, Without a doubt wait! Losing that $2000 is like paying $36k for that 03 instead of $34, its bargain declines, considering the 03 is in great shape, it would be great, but with patience you could find another good deal, I haven't seen either car to know, but if you have $2000 to lose if you back out, why not wait for the decision, you'll either get the 04 or get your $2000
back and have to look for another, DEFINITE wait! that 4500miles for $34k sounds to good to be true anyway! if the car was abused, againg IF! then its like having 20k+ miles and that means you can get a deal like that easy. My old Mustang had 8k miles(second clutch already! ) and it was in worst condition then mine now with 20k miles(much worst) Hope that helps :thumb:

I am waiting till friday to see about option 1.

I contacted the dealership that the '03 was traded in to and they said they will hold off until monday or tuesday and they will sell it for 35,000 out the door to me. Looks like I should win either way. If I do not get the '03 I will post the dealship it is at if anyone wants. It really is an awesome car that just was not driven and the guy who had it has alot of cash and put alot down and did not care to lose it hence the great price.

Thanks for everyones opinions they really helped calm me down this morning. Amazing I never thought a car would ever stress me so bad.

I don't understand. If the first deal is with a friend, and the holdup is GM accepting a lease transfer w/o penalty,(yeah, that'll happen  ) He should realize you're in a tough position and release you from the commitment, and return your "deposit".

Please explain the 03 vin # thing to me also. Mine is 1g1yy12s535118643. How do we know if our system is newer or older? Also, is there a way to find out what day the car was built??

The main reason for the Fuel system change to the FFS is because the Federal Government did not want the fuel filter being outside of the fuel tank creating the possibility of fuel vapors going into the atmosphere. So the fuel filter was placed inside the tank. So on mid 2003 and newer C5's the fuel filter is not serviceable and that's good IMO.

This answer if from c4c5specialist

There has been massive discrepancy on the breakpoints, and if FFS is indicated on the glove box.
FACT is that FFS was started production on the breakpoint, 111,542.
FACT is that NOT ALL have the FFS on the glove box SERVICE PARTS IDENTIFICATION LABEL.
I do not know the reasons for this, and no one has been able to give me a clear cut answer, however, ALL C5 after this breakpoint will have the FFS fuel system.
EVERY single time I serve these cars, after the breakpoint, we obtain options codes from GM, and everyone has the system.
FFS system requires different diagnosis steps for EVERY PART OF THE FUEL SYSTEM.
Allthebest, c4c5
