Has anyone experienced this?

I was making a quick trip to the store... I drove the car yesterday and all was well and noticed the odometer showing almost 3900 miles.

Today I get in the car and turn the ignition and the odometer says 0! I turn off, pull the key, restart the car again... big ZERO on the odometer. I drive to the store, everything sounds fine, the odometer is starting from zero and I make my seven mile drive to the store. I come out of the store and start the car... 3889 on the odometer! WFT? I get home and the odometer ends at 3896. I will kinda keep my eye on it. I don't know if the 7 miles to the store was added on.

Very odd. But for a moment, I was thinking, "How much can I get for an '01 Z with VERY low miles towards an '02." ;)

Codes please, very interesting

Hi there,
I would ask that you give me any codes in the BCM, PCM, or the IPC, as displayed on your DIC during code retrieval.
I am very interested on this one. Thanks
Best to you, c4c5

Re: Codes please, very interesting

B.C.M, P.C.M, I.P.C?

W.T.F.? (j/k) :) You went over my head with those codes but I'll keep an eye on my D.I.C.

Funny thing, my ODO, TRIP1 and TRIP2 was ZEROED, but my oil life was still 98% and my fuel readings were still function as well as everything else.

This is a VERY odd issue and kinda glad it fixed itself somehow. Kinda sad cause I was thinking '02 ;) My car is teasing me. Must have been a disruption in the MATRIX :)

But I won't be joking about it too much if it happens again.

Thanks Frank, just found it.

C4C5, I'll look over the FAQ on how to do it and then go to the garage and try it out. maybe late tonight I'll tell you what happened.

People here done it with no ill effects? Might be a weird question but considering my odo went zero, just wanna make sure that reset, options, fuel four times within a 10-Second period doesnt set a self destruct. :)

Don,

If you look in the "Owner FAQ" section, it will have an explanation of the codes and how to access them. :)

Guess we forgot to tell you about that part. No problems will be encountered, except the passenger ejection seat.

I did it! And thought that was really cool thing to play with :)
Now the results... and also, my trip1 and trip2 was also restored with my odo.

10 PCM - P1431H
60 IPC - B0516H
B0 RFA - U1064H

The rest had no codes.

Gonna go out so can't deciper them from the FAQs right now but if some techys can start analyzing, would be cool. C4C5?

Thanks,
don

Nothing conclusive here

Hi there,
Well, from the codes that werre given, you may have a tank sending unit issue, however, the 516 is a fault that your vehicle speed sensor which would indicate about 200 MPH.
I would be cautious about the next time this happens, and retrieve codes at that time, if there is a next one.

THANKS!

I'll keep an eye on it and now that I know how to access the info, will do so if it happens again.

C4C5 specialist - could that be caused by static electricity somewhere on an eprom ?

Don - you are sure you did not engage the trip odometer by some chance.

No, it was the odometer.

When I saw the odo, I checked both trip gages to make sure that I was looking at the odometer and even noticed both trip gages were also zero but the oil life was still correst at 98%. When the odometer went back to over 3000 miles, I checked the trip gage and they were also reset to 1000+ on one and whatever on the second.

Possible

Yes, EMI, or electromagnetic interference could create this issue.
As for the solution, there are no preliminary documents on SI2000, nor any diagnostics listed for this condition.
I would expect that it could be an electronic glitch in the cetral logic board within the IPC, that could be the issue, as remember, the odometer reading comes from the BCM, and is fed into the logic module of the instrument panel cluster.
Anything is possible, and I feel that this one is very tough to diagnose without just taking a guess, and throwing an instrument cluster into the car. Not really fond at taking guesses, can you tell.??
Please keep us up to date, c4c5
