Yesterday I checked my error codes for the very first time. I had the following.

10-PCM P1518 H
28-TCS none
40-BCM none
58-SDM U1016 H
60-IPC U1016 H
80-RADIO U1016 H
99-HVAC none
A0-LDCM none
A1-RDCM none
A6-SCM none
B0-RFA U1016 H

I have NO flashing lights.

I did once reach the rev limit (which may explain the U1016 - but the RADIO U1016 doesn't make sense to me).

The documentation indicates the P1518 is "PCM to TAC Module Serial Data Circuit" , but I couldn't find any more detailed information on the code.

I reset them all will monitor the situation and try to watch the TAC a little closer so I don't do that rev limit thing again.

Note to General Motors. A date/time stamp would REALLY be nice on these codes.

Codes

Hi there,
Well, your p1518 is critical here, as this shows a momentary communication failure to the PCM from the TAC module, for 1 second. You have a dedicated communication line between these 2 control modules, so what I would say is that you may need to see your dealer on this.
When this codes sets, you will get a 'reduced engine power' on the DIC, and you really cant move, unless your key is cycled, and you restart the car.
The u1016 are a direct result of the 1518 being set. All other modules are disregarded, so thats why you have the others.
I would take it to you dealer as soon as possible.
YOu time and date stamp are saved in your PCM for retrieval by a Corvette tech, with a Tech 2. It is there.

I've been looking into this issue from another angle, the ECM's adjustment of mixture and spark advance/retard after adding things like a free flowing intake or exhaust, etc.

I've concluded that the DIC is about useless for giving you any useful information. I e-mailed and then spoke with John at Team ZR-1, who was formerly a GM test engineer and appears to know quite a bit about how the ECM works. He recommends acquiring an Ease OBD-2 Powertrain Scanner, which the Team ZR-1 web site sells for a heavily discounted price. This scanner seems to provide even more information than a Tech-2, but is very reasonably priced, about $330 with shipping. It hooks to a regular PC serial port and plugs into the diagnostic port on the car.

He (and a number of other people) also recommended a "MAF Translator" for cars which have mods that increase air flow into the engine (like the Vortex, TRIC, free flowing exhausts, etc). (RamChargers.com makes one for the LS1/LS6.) Used in conjunction with the above scanner software, you can tune out the offset to mixture and spark retard you sometimes get with free flowing intakes and exhausts.

I'm still in the learning process on this, but it sounds like you need to find a friend who has one of these scanners to see what's really going on, possibly before you head for the dealer?

You can start to - but don't count on it. :)

Narrow band O2's (the sensors plugged into the pipes on our cars) are virtually worthless for tuning a car - a true wide band O2 is needed to do any real good with a MAFT on a dyno - The above scanner software is also known as "AutoTap". :)

Thanks..........Hmmmmmmmm
Seems like this is kind of like George Orwells Big Brutha scenario........
A major help for tech's, and also a way to prove abuse......to decline warranties...............
Am I full of it, or say it ain't so:eek: :-? :-?

I can see where this is going, and NO

HI,
The whole point behind freeze frame failure record is to help us diagnose a condition. The snapshot is made to show us exactly when the fault occured, and to duplicate the parameters shown in the retrieved data.
IT will give us all pertinant data to try to duplicate the concern. It will NOT take a snapshot, unless you are experiencing a type A failure, plain and simple. It does NOT record anything unless a type A DTC is set.
I know I use the feature alot, as this is how I can appropriately fix your cars.

c4c5specialist.

Thanks for your input. I have been the only person to drive this car since I picked it up at the museum on 10/19 and other than the one time I hit the rev limit -- I never had any problem where the DIC indicated anything where I had to restart the car.

Once when I started it, the DIC said "Charge System Fault" - but I don't think that is related.

Is it possible the factory never reset the codes prior to delivery?

I will keep a very close eye on it.

A Note. As of this writing, I have made NO changes to anything in the car.

How do you

Once the codes are scrolling write them down ?
They go by fast, and when you go to manual mode it / they show only........1 codes........but the letter's and numbering(codes) do not show up......
Confusing to say the least.
I am sure there is a way to manually read the actual codes......but I didn't see it in the literature.....that I downloaded.
All mine were H's, no C's.............:-?
It's hell to be compooter challenged...........

The last paragraph on the 1st page of the documention in the FAQ tell how to scroll thru the codes.

When it says "1 code" -- press "gages" to go forward to see the actual code. "fuel" will go back if you had more than one.

Strange

Hi,
I am surprized that you didnt get the 'reducedenginepower'.
Well, as for the 'chargingsystemfault', if you only hadit happened once, I would not worry.
As for the factory, no, they would not just clear a code. If they had a problem, they would not release the vehicle for shipment.
If nothing out of the ordinary has happened. I would not worry. If anything further occurs, please let us know, c4c5

I wasn't having any problems. Car runs great. I got almost 3k on it now.

I had printed off that information a while back. Actually I sitting in my car waiting on Janet and Dennis last Saturday. So, I just thought I would display them and see what was presented.

I have worked with computers since the 60s, and I guess I couldn't resist tinkering with the computer in the car.

Plus -- I wanted a known base line if/when I ever have a problem. I am the only driver of this car so I will know when something strange happens.

As I stated above, I recorded what was there -- then reset them. If/when I have a problem, of course I will not reset codes I want the service people to look at.

From what I can tell from other posts -- that U1016 H is comon and considered normal (yeah, I know -- a normal error code -- go figure :-? ).

I had thought about this before I picked up the car and just forgot. I really wanted to display them just as I was ready to leave Bowling Green so I would know from the git go what the computer had to say.
