I have heard rumors that Chevrolet has already designated RPO LS7 for the Corvette model....anyone know any more on this? Displacement? What year/model Vet will it be available in? Is there even any truth to the rumor?

Have heard nothing about it. But i hope its a 7.0 liter 450 hp/torque 3000 lb. car.

Tony,

Hopefully we can get some more info when I return to Detroit in a week. Our Bro will know the answer.
It would be weird indeed, since the LS7 was an experimental engine in the late 60's early 70's (not sure on the year) of which less than a dozen were made. Rumored to be in excess of 450hp, one was stolen from a shop at GM proving grounds by three men and a pickup after breaking through a chainlink fence....

Odd story...but true...

From what I know on the LS-7, it was a motor that was being developed for the Chevelle and Corvette in 69-70 in 454ci clothing. Although supposedly none were released into cars 1970 was a strike year and what actually happened no one knows but I have heard that there is a documented 1970 Chevelle LS-7 in Portland, OR. Oh, and the HP was going to be factory rated at 465hp, and if you look around you will actually find the LS-7 listed as an option in early print 1970 manuals. Hope this gets you excited.
Now that would create a ton of excitement and bragging rights in the Chiverlay world !
My money is on a 6.0 liter V8 450+ hp engine. The Corvette team has been gunning for the viper for an awful long time, and a 6.0 liter would do it.
If history repeats itself as it did in the early 70's, the '02 405 HP engine might rightfully be called an LS7. The LS7 was an upgraded LS6 454. The LS6 had 425 HP the LS7 reportedly was to have 450+ HP before the bean counters wacked it. Let's hope that part of history isn't repeated, just the nominclature. The natural upgrade of the modern day LS6 from 385 to 405 HP would make the "LS7" a logical designation for '02.

And according to the natural nominclature progression at Chevy....I hearby dub and commend the 427 cu in/650 HP engine used in the C5R and as aftermarket suppliers Katech, Mallet and Lingenfelter build it THE L-88.

I also am the first to sign a petition emploring and outright begging Chevy to offer this engine as an SPO (Special Production Option) for us racers out here.

I hearby dub and commend the SPO offering of a 427 cu.in., all aluminum block, in the production C5/Z06 or even the C6 as THE ZL-1!

Boy does all this bring back memories.

I have a warm, tingly feeling all over right now. I can just feel the torque sitting here!

The LS7 is probaly going to be a Northstar V8 from Cadillac and it will probably have at least 450 HP with Dual Overhead Cams and 4 valves per cylinder. GM is going to build the new Cadillac roadster in the Bowling Green Plant in Kentucky, along with the Corvette. GM would most likely use the same type of engine in both of these cars in order to cut costs.
Zippy, I posted that last year and was nearly run out of the CF, I had info from last year and as soon as I find my folder (packed for the move) I will post the info unless I can find it on one of my hard drives. I remember it being a small block engine.
