Sounds like "marbles in a can"........?

If so, its probably normal.....try shutting the engine off while its doing this, if it makes more of the same racket, its normal.

Loose change in a coffee can

If you were to take 5 dollars in loose change, put it into a 2 pound metal coffee can, turn the can horizontal and roll the can,
THIS is the sound I get on my 02, ONLY when slipping the clutch out with MINIMAL RPM's to engage first gear, once I get rolling it stops, and is not heard from again in the other gears.
Anyone else have this? Calling all coffee canners, please report!
THANKS!:-?

Sorry guys I forgot to mention that this knocking noise only does it in Neutral. When the car is in motion it does not do it at all.As far as marbles in a can sound I'm not sure about that because it sounds more like metal knocking sound and can be loud.I.E. standing back a little ways from the car and still hear it.Still normal? :(

That sound you described is normal. I believe it is also mentioned in the video.

Another thing about this my 01 coupe did not make this noise. Is it just inherent in the Z06 model?:( What are the differances in the two models?

I would agree, normal

HI there,
As the other members on the forum have noted, I do concur that this should be considered a normal condition.
Heres why, as the driveline, and the input shaft to the transmission, are NOT bolted together, they are spline driven. So there is a slight clearancing between the torque tube, input shaft of the trans, and the clutch plate.
What you are experiencing is the inherant drive line noise, common in this design.
The reason that you are not hearing it when driving, is that you have a load on the driveline, which locks the driveline together. And this is what keeps the driveline from knocking.
Besttoyou, c4c5

Take the car, drive it FAST, the noise will go away, until you stop. But GO FAST anyway, forget the noise, it's a Chevy, but a FAST one.

This is a normal noise . My son owns a 2000 ext. cab S-10 extreme. In neutral without a load on the driveline it sounds like the throwout bearing rattling. When you depress the clutch it goes away ! It's a problem with the clearances in the transmission ! My 02 Z does the same thing ! So don't worry be happy !:D :D :D
