Ok all of a sudden we can't even talk about street racing. Anyone know of another forum where we can talk about street racing???????? Of course I like all of you don't street race because it is illegal. However, I like to hear about others encounters on the roadway. I am just curious why z06vette.com feels they will be held liable for conversations containing street racing themes. Unless someone sets up a street race thourgh this site there is no precedent on that. I BELIEVE. Just looking for an explanation to what seem to be new rules. Dr.Bigg

Well I can think of two reasons right off hand, it's dangerous and it's illegal. The last thing we want to read about on this site is someone getting killed because of street racing.

Allowing the street racing threads is in a subtle way, promoting it.

Everyone needs to understand one thing, these rules that are in "Rules of the Road" are not new. They have been in place and used by the mods for the past three years.

They are finally written and posted for the first time in the site's existence, but trust me, they are not new.

Allowing blatant, open discussions of street racing opens this site up to liability. By allowing these discussions to occur implies our acceptance of illegal activity and the site could be dragged into lawsuits if someone decides to sue due to a bad experience.

Z06Vette.com does not condone street racing in any form or accept any liability for anything that may happen during an illegal street race. We respectfully request that our members refrain from discussing street racing activities on this forum.

Just out of pure interest in the concept of liability, surely a statement of disassociation is good enough to free Z06Vette.com from liability?

If this is not the case, the the same logic could be applied to an intake discussion, that results in someone making a mod based on guidance offered on the forum that resulted in damage and injury.

After all any modification to intake, exhaust or emmisions control equipment is just as illegal as speeding on the street, and surely any injury resulting from either root action would be bad news.

I am simply bring this up as a point of interest - what is it about the one set of liabilities vs the other that is the main difference?

Have precedents for either types of liabilities been set before? Are there even differences or even actual liabilities?

Inquiring minds would love to know. Boy the law sure is an interesting topic of discussion when you are not looking at it through the back window of a squad car .. :p

So im curious.. street racing is illegal...so is putting half the mods on Z06 engines I read on this site also.

Ive read countless posts on here from people doing triple digit mph numbers in their vettes (not racing either). Thats illegal in every state I know of.

There is no way in heck a website has any liabilty for allowing street racings posts. Thats absurd to think that would be promoting street racing. I wont post any street racing stories cause I dont wanna get banned from this board, but gimme a break here...

There are thousands of web sites out there that welcome posts like that with videos and dont seem to have a legal problem with it at all.

I don't spend allot of time on other car forums, but I thought it was a common policy not to allow street racing threads. :-?
If there is even a question of liability, it's a good policy IMO. :)

I understand the need for the rule and the disclaimer. I doubt the mod/admins would be held responsible but more importantly there is no need to waste their time and make them deal with the stress. I'm sure there is some lawyer out there who would make this place like a fraternity (even being able to find the mods using those exact words) and then be able to tie into lawsuits involving Frats. Being that I was a pres of one I understand that even though I was not part of a lot of the stuff happening in the house by certain people I was the head and they would have gone after me first. So again I understand the rule.
As a side affect of the rule I noticed it helps keep the trolls away. You don't get the pissed off mustang/viper/Honda owner coming over saying they were the one you raced last night on 95 and they would have won if you kept going or didn't cut them off or they didn't have to dodge the lady pushing her baby carriage on the sidewalk when they tried to pass you in traffic :) You get the point......
Just like there are other places for porn there are other places for street racing discussions.

^^ This logic makes sense.

I just hope CARB and the EPA don't come looking for "those people who mod their cars"... :p

Let's see........

This is a high performance corvette forum mostly used by men who own high performance corvettes.

We can't talk about:

Street Racing
Speeding
Nudity
Off color humour
large pictures
dirty language

What do we talk about?

Knitting.

This site has really tightened the rules in the last year. You mods talk about how much work you do for no pay...

Here's a thought. Lighten up and allow men to discuss manly topics.

Quit playing cop of the internet. You will have alot less work.

And the liability thing is total bulls**t.

That would be like if i told a friend about a street race i won and someone sued my friend.

Get a grip

I refuse to street race because of the consequences, however, everytime I'm out in the Z there is usually some idiot kid that trys to get me to race even though some don't even drive road worthly vehicles. I don't know if these kids don't know what a Z06 is but I don't give them the satisfaction of acknowledging their existence. I'm not saying I don't speed but getting caught for speeding isn't as serious as getting caught racing and maybe causing a major accident.

If the forum doesn't want street racing discussed then that's fine with me because I'm a nonpaying member and don't deserve a vote one way or the other.

You would be very surprised what EPA and CARB people troll some of these boards looking at license plates from posts.
