Well my headers arrived last week... and poking around under the car, it appears it's going to be a little more work than anticipated. I had assumed that the Corsa X-pipe I ordered would go from the headers to the cat-back. But it's not (doh!), it goes from the back of the cats, to the cat-back. Since I don't have a welder, I'd have to install the headers and drive the car over to my exhaust guy (w/ open headers) to have him cut up the rest of the system, etc. I don't wanna do that.

I found an ad in this months GM Hi-Tech for some place called "Horsepower Store" that is selling "off-road" X-pipes. There is also an article on an MTI Z07, where they use something similar (call it the same.) Does anybody know anything about these? I'm basically looking for something that I can install between the headers and cat-back, without hacking up the stock stuff.

Once I figure this out I may have a brand-new Corsa X-pipe for sale too...

Hi Omniglh,
I just got my B&B shortie headers delivered last week, along with a B&B PRT system. I also get GMHTP and read the same article you did on the Z07. The company they got their X-pipe from is called Dr. Gas. I checked into their pipe and it is for long tube headers only. I have a Bassani "off road" X-pipe on order that is a direct bolt in from the headers (or manifold) to the cat back system. It is a two piece set up but is suposed to bolt in with no cutting or welding. Since it eliminates the cats, I have some concerns about trouble codes, but I guess i'll see how the O2 sims work. Good Luck!

Hmm... do you have a website for Dr. Gas?

Did you happen to find out how much their unit cost? I have long-tubes so that pipe will work for me...

Thanks

Jim,
The address for Dr. Gas is drgas.com. As I said before, Bassani also makes a variety of pipes for different applications, but I don't know if they make one that bolts in between long tubes and your cat back. I got my headers and exhaust system on the car today and it sounds great! I dont know if I'm making any more power but it sure sounds a lot better. I'll let you know how my x-pipe works out.

Z06 Tom,

If you take out the cats, you can install a set of oxygen sensor simulators. This takes care of the computer problem. /phpBB/images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif /phpBB/images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif /phpBB/images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif /phpBB/images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif

Just FYI - I emailed Bassani... got a reply that they don't make an off-road pipe for cars equipped with long-tubes. Only for cars with shorties or stock manifolds.

Doh!!!

Dr. Gas didn't have anything on their website, I'm gonna call them tomorrow along with Horsepowerstore.com

Edg,
I ordered my X-pipe from Motor State Distributing, (616) 463-4113. The guy I talked to is Brent. I called Bassani and they gave me several distributors that are in my general area. Bassani's number is (714)630-1821. The guy I spoke with there is Sheldon. He was a lot of help and even faxed me a picture and installation instructions for the pipe. To make this a bolt-in deal you need two parts. You need a C501-2 and a 5797-X. With these two parts you can go from the manifolds all the way back to your exhaust. The total cost for both pieces is $515.00. I also got a set of 02 simulators from West Coast Corvette so the pipe won't freek out the computer. The sims are $212.00 for two of them. I'll let you know how it works out once I get it put on. They say I should see it the first part of next week.
Have a nice weekend.

Z06 TOM, Thanks for info. I think this is the mod for me, I don't want to take off my Ti exhaust but want a louder sound with more H.P. than the cat back systems can give you. The nice thing is if we go with long tube headers later I believe you can take off the first x-pipe and that will work. I'll be waiting to here from you. Later , EDGZ06

EdgZ06,
My guy at the muffler shop is putting the pipe on as we type! It is a realy nice looking piece. The whole assemblie weighs about 10lbs. I can't wait to see how it runs with the pipe in place. The headers and PRTs make a great sound and it should be even better with the pipe.
On Sunday a guy in a ram air Trans-Am was on my rear end all the way through town. I led him out of town and motioned for him to pull up beside me. I told him to make the call, and when he did I proceded to hand him his ass!!! After the race we pulled over and I got a look at his engine. It was an LT1 with Lingenfelter heads, cam and throttle body, headers, of road X-pipe and corsa cat-back. He told me that it was a mid 12 second car without the bottle, which he then showed me was in the back. He then proceded to tell me I was lucky it was empty. I told him I did'nt think he would have had enough traction even if he could have used it. Oh well, it made me feel good about my mods!! I'll let you know how the pipe works out.
Take care.

Ok guys,
My complete exhaust system from the motor back is now in place. The Bassani "off-road" X-pipe is a very nice piece. It is well made and easily installed. I used a set of O2 sims from West Coast Corvette to get around codes from the computer and the car has a rock solid idle @ 800RPM. (even with my MAF screen removed) Mere words can't describe the sound of the car! /phpBB/images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif /phpBB/images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif With the headers, X-pipe and PRT's, it sounds like a mix of a Indy car and a GT car./phpBB/images/smiles/icon_eek.gif /phpBB/images/smiles/icon_eek.gif With just the headers and the cat back I was getting a lot of popping and cracking on deceleration. The X-pipe did away with most, but not all, of this. I'll find out what kind of HP I'm turning out next Thursday. I have a 1:00p.m. appt. with the dyno. From the seat of the pants feel, I think it will be a nice gain./phpBB/images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif /phpBB/images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif /phpBB/images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif /phpBB/images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif I'll post my results.

Hey Edge!
I didn't get to the dyno last week (I took the six year old to see Schreck, what can you do?) I have a appt. set up for this Fri.
8-10. I'll post my results. I don't know what my results will be, but it sure is fun to drive and it sounds BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAD. /phpBB/images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif /phpBB/images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif /phpBB/images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif
I'll be in touch!

Hi Edg,
Yeah, I got to the dyno yesterday.(See post on "Pit Road") There were some heat related factors involved, but I wasn't all that thrilled with my results. /phpBB/images/smiles/icon_confused.gif I would have liked to see around 360rwhp with all my mods. Take a look at my post and let me know what you think.
Thanks!
