Well, it happened again yesterday. After getting on the car hard in third gear, I broke the rear tires loose momentairly, and activated the TC. The TC light stayed on, and the "service engine soon" appeared on the DIC.

I cleared it with the reset button, but the TC symbol stayed on, until I shut the car off. Upon restarting the car, everything went back to normal, as far as being able to set the AH, TC and or comp. driving modes.

Do I have a loose ground or something? This happens only when the TC is activated, and not every time. When the symbol is light, I can't change the AH settings. Any ideas?

I turned the ignition to on, and pressed reset, then pressed the options button and while holding it in, pressed the fuel 4 times, and nothing came up, the DIC was in the conf. options mode for the alarm system, and never went into the auto mode or manual mode. Did I mess something up in trying to get the to the codes???

Dennis, try it again, press and hold option button and press fuel 4 times or more and it will go into the proper mode, it just went out to my car and did it. It will scroll through in automatic mode, then it goes into manual mode you can go through that by pressing the option button once at a time then. Make sure your door is closed and it will work

Hi Dennis, ok, when you do that, you go into manual diagnostics.
When this occurs, you use the 4 button to scroll through the modules, as if you hit the 4 button once, the next module you will be at will be TCS, and then you use 1 or 2 to view the codes.
In order to scroll through, continue to use the 3.4 to scroll through the modules, and the 1,2 buttons to read the actual codes.
If there are NO CODES, proceed to the next module, and let us know, c4c5

Thanks for your help, the computer stuff amazes me in these cars....not like my old 69 S/S 396, but here is what I found for codes:

60-IPC code BO521H
BO-RFA code U1064H
28TCS code C1288H

These were all the codes I could find, every other module had "no codes".

60-IPC code BO521H Tach signal malfuntion - the IPC detected the rpm over 7400
BO-RFA code U1064H - loss of communications, this is common if battery is disconnected
28TCS code C1288H - Steering Sensor malfuntion, this picks up the steering wheel position, I have seen this code on many cars and maybe C4/C5 can fill us in on this one.

Dennis All your codes are "H" codes which means they happened a while back and are not giving you current errors.

Thanks for your input. Is there a way to clear these codes w/o the requisite ignition cycles or scan tool to see if there is still a problem??

Yes, 7400 RPM? I thought the fuel was cut off long before the engine could reach that number. /phpBB/images/smiles/icon_eek.gif

No I have seen the 7400 rpm message before on cars, it's an error in communication to the computer. Dennis go back into the DIC and access like before, when the system goes into the manual mode scroll through until you get the error codes to show up, then press the Reset button and it will clear and then say "no code" do this for each of the 3 codes and then they will be gone.

Carl/C4C5,

Great info on the DIC button sequences. Just curious, are there any other special features? Are these special button sequences documented anywhere?

Thanks

Thanks, I will go back in and clear the codes as per your instructions. Also heard that there is a "history" module that stores all the codes the car has ever pulled. Can that be true? Might be something a guy would want to check before buying a used C5..... Mgarfias: me miss a downshift??.....never. /phpBB/images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif

Pat, the info is in the 3 set service manual, it can be ordered from Fichtner Chevy for about $99.00, if interested call Bob at 800-234-5284, tell him Carl from Pa told you he would take care of you.

Dennis, you are clearing "H" history codes, GM techs can go in with Scan tool, maybe C4/C5 could tell us more, I am working on something that will erase the top speed from being stored in the computer, and it would would show a much lower top speed, if anyone ever looked. /phpBB/images/smiles/icon_wink.gif
