C4C5 Specialist,
I am attempting to mount a Cobra seat in my car. Because the Cobra seat mounting points are the same width but much closer together fore and aft than the stock locations, my intention was to mount the seat frame on two 3mm thick steel plates running fore aft and mount these plates to the stock seat mounting posts. Unfortunately, due to the recess where the stock seat mounting studs come through the floor, a flat steel plate won't work. The easiest solution is to put longer seat mounting studs on.
Question:
How do I remove the stock seat mounting studs? Are they threaded on? Welded on? Glued on? I searched the service manual and couldn't find any info on how they are mounted.
Thanks for any info you can provide.
Aloha,
Ffen

Hithere,
Well, I have some bad news for you. The seat mounting studs are press fit to a steel cross brace, under the car. This cross brace goes from the inside driveline tunnel, to the outside frame rail.
Now, these studs go through the composition flooring, and you retain the seat to the studs with the nuts.
They may be welded, as I do not know for sure, because I have never seen the other side of the cross brace.
However, I would suggest, that you install a steel plate, connecting the front and back studs. And then, thread and tap holes for your mounting the Cobra seat.
Or you could always do the same thing, drill small dimples in the floor, to allow clearancing, and install carriage bolts from the underside of the plate.
Please let us know how you make out, c4c5:eek2:

I plan on putting non memory sport seats in my 2002 Z06 which has memory seats in it. Do you know if all the other memory fuctions will still work (other then the seat). Also will I be seeing any code on my DIC?

Thanks, Ray

Hi Calvette,
You have mail, as there are alot of details that you can take care of to make your swap more palatable, without throwing codes.
