I have posted this at the c5 forum but I am repeating myself here. I purchased a Red Z06 in Feb. and picked it up in the rain. I dried the car when I arrived home and noticed a black spot on the roof. Called Maxie Price the next morning and told them I had a problem and I didn't want the car painted. After several months I am letting GM paint the roof. Maxie Price did nothing for me with the problem. I contacted GM myself and I contacted the Paint Dept. at the factory. The factory guys really seemed to care. It turns out the problem occured during transport and the PDI guy at Maxie Price didnot see it. The GM rep was of next to no help with the dealer. He said I could try to work a deal with the dealer on a trade but there would be no trade assistance. The dealer has yet to ever even call me back. The only times I have spoken with him was buy luck of catching him in his office. It looks like they got my money and then said to hell with me! My mistake was not returning the car the morning after I found the spot but I was told by the dealer then that it wasn't a problem and they would take care of me. Well they took care of my money and that's about it. So buyers beware if you use Maxie Price Chev. in Loganville, GA they will take your money and run!!!

Wow!! Sorry for the bad luck.

Sherylann bought a new Black '99 Hardtop in October of '98. There were thin spots in the paint, and she didn't want it repainted. So the dealer ordered her another identical FRC and 3 months later when it came in, they swapped the cars for her at NO ADDITIONAL COST!! I have no cpmplaints about ELCO Chevrolet in St. Louis and they way they do business. Very customer oriented!! /phpBB/images/smiles/icon_smile.gif

Shoe, sorry to hear about your problem. Not sure where you live but next time try Tom Jumper. Their service dept has two Corvette-only techs. A couple weeks ago TJ hosted a Corvette Atlanta cruise-in.

Now go out and start drivin' - that's the best way to get a smile /phpBB/images/smiles/icon_smile.gif

Paint defects are probably the most "grey area" in all new car purchases. Almost everyone I know has gone thru something like this at one time or another. It says a lot about the way Corvette people are passionate about thier cars. The average new car "buyer" would never notice things like paint defects because their cars are so dirty most of the time, they really don't care anyway.

For most, the dealer is not sympathetic either because a repaint is generally not covered under a new car warranty.

This is the reason why it is so vitally important to NOT make final payment on a car or sign a sales contract until after you have inspected it to your full satisfaction. I believe this is your legal right. As soon as you give the dealer all your money, you have NO MORE LEVERAGE.

Caveat emptor.

I'm with you...Inspect any new car inside and out BEFORE signing anything, or taking it off the dealer's lot. Politely inform them to correct it properly and walk away. Tell them to call you when it is ready to sell.

SHOE,

I too bought a new blk Z06 a couple of weeks ago at Maxie. I thought the deal and experience was excellent, but I too have a spot or 2 on the top that I have no idea what it is and Zaino just covers it up. What does your "mark" look like ??

Hi Dave, My roof spot is about the size of a nickel but it fades out to the size of a quarter. The paint rep from the factory said it looked like hydraulic fluid from the transporter leaked on the roof and dissolved thru the protective coating and then the clear coat. It's a black spot that Zaino will not cover also there is a slight recess in the clear coat. I know delivery of the car in the rain is a poor option but in my defense I was leaving for Daytona the next day and I didn't want to leave the car at the dealer for a week while I was gone. The water spots/beeding prevented me from seeing the spot until I dried it off at home. I thought this being the flagship car for GM they would help me but I was wrong.

SHOE, Sorry to here about the paint problem. I too bought my Z from Maxie Price and the service was great. Of course the difference was a sunny day with plenty of time to inspect everything. Once you leave the dealer, it's all uphill from there. Before you have it painted you should have a top quality bodyshop try and wetsand it. Wetsanding is totally safe when done by a profesional with the right materials. You have nothing to lose anyway if it's getting painted. Although it looks like it did, spots doen't ussually seep into or through the clearcoat. Just my 2 cents. Later, Ed

ZMAN,

ELCO is alloted a quite of few Zs. They courtesy delivered a Z to a forum member in Calif. last year. Expect to pay MSRP from them. They sell the Zs as fast as they arrive. Call Mark Gereke at 636-227-5333.

I bought my Yellow/Black int. for Maxieprice also but had no problems. The only issue I had was that the salesman(I'll give his name by request) charged me twice for the $600 dollar yellow paint option. I didn't realize till later. As if the $51500 we agreed on wasn't enough. Therefore I also, will not buy my next Vette there
