Reason for Sale:
I love this car; however, right now, it is just not practical for my current situation in life. It begs to be modded, and I just don’t have the cash to mod it properly. I have done nothing half-ass with this car, and I refuse to start now. I’m a firm believer in doing it right the first time.

Now, just because I have this huge desire to make the car faster, don’t get me wrong, it’s already quite fast. You’ll have no problem with just about any stock car and many modified cars on the road (including Z06s, Carreras, Ferraris, and 03/04 Cobras), but if I do any more modding, it will be a major project as I would be satisfied with no less than 550 whp. At this stage in life (full-time law student), I don’t have the disposable income to both own a waterfront condo and continue to heavily mod this car. Sure, I could just drive it, but I’d rather get something tame and extremely reliable and be able to continue to invest in property for a few more years.

I purchased my FD in June of 2003. Even then, it was in amazing shape. Now, after a full repaint with the body work alone costing over $12,000, I challenge you to find a cleaner example of a modified FD anywhere in the United States. Some day, I will own another FD, but I just feel that the money that I have in this car could be better spent on other things. This sale affords you the opportunity to purchase an FD that has well over $50k invested for nearly half the cost.

My asking price is $29,000. Let me assure you that I do not HAVE to sell this car. My finances are in order, and I am not desperate for money unlike many other who sacrifice their cars for a quick sale; however, I would prefer to invest the money from this sale in property, so I am now looking for a buyer.

The car dynoed at 380 whp @ 14 psi and 425 whp @ 20 psi. The 20 psi pull was done in extremely hot temperatures after 20+ pulls, so I think it actually makes a bit more than that when it is not extremely heatsoaked. I also have a feeling that my particular T66 is a bit restrictive for the higher-RPM power; however, I have not pulled off the turbo to measure the A/R and other such specs. I have never run more than 14 psi on 93 octane fuel. Otherwise, I run 100 octane unleaded fuel on the occasional weekend that I run 20 psi. I have been premixing 1 oz of Mobil 1 2-stroke Full Synthetic per gallon of fuel for 4 months now. I have a functional OMP, but SPOAutos convinced me to premix as well for safety.

The Car:
93 Montego Blue FD with Tan Leather Interior – Approx 140k miles on the body

Engine:
Rebuilt with 3mm seals approximately 15k miles ago. Engine had just been rebuilt when I purchased the car by Scott Glassburn at Mazsport in Largo, FL. The only people who have driven the car are me and Scott. I am extremely meticulous with the maintenance of the car, and it has never gone more than 3k miles without an oil change. Usually, I have it in the shop every 2k miles for general maintenance (check/change plugs, change oil, etc).

Turbo:
I purchased the car with a brand new Turbonetics T66 installed in the car; therefore, the turbo has approximately 15k miles on it as well. Unfortunately, I do not know the specs of the turbo, and I have not been able get in touch with the previous owner who purchased the turbo from Turbonetics to ask him.

ECU:
Microtech LT-8 conservatively tuned by Scott Glassburn of Mazsport
Microtech Dash Display Unit

Electronics:
Greddy Profec-B Spec II
Greddy Turbo Timer
Viper keyless entry/alarm

Exhaust:
Custom Downpipe with wastegate rerouted back in
Custom Midpipe with Magnaflow muffler (filters the high pitches well)
Thermal Research Catback

Intake:
Custom Powdercoated intake for turbo with huge K&N filter
Custom Intercooler Piping
Custom FMIC with powdercoated end tanks and elbows
Powercoated UIM
Greddy Type-R BOV
Greddy Elbow

Fuel:
550cc primary injectors
1600cc secondary injectors
Dual In-tank Nippodenso Fuel Pumps
SX Fuel Pressure Regulator

Other:
Front and Rear Strut Tower Bars by Tanabe
Relocated AC condenser with 2 extra fans
Extra Loud Italian Air Horn

Brakes:
Brembo cross-drilled rotors
Black Painted Calipers with polished “Mazda” (front)

Drivetrain:
Transmission has had the 5th gear synchro replaced and shifts smoothly
B&M Short Shifter
Aluminum Fidanza Flywheel
Spec Stage 3 Clutch (very nice pedal pressure, holds great)
4.33 rear with a S4 Turbo II differential (practically as strong as Kaaz with less noise)
Differential Brace has been reinforced for drag racing (although I’ve made fewer than 10 passes with the car since I’ve owned it)

Body Modifications:
OEM 99 Spec Bumper modified to fit exactly with my FMIC
OEM 99 Spec Lip painted to match the car (and flow with the side skirts)
Rotary Extreme Apex-style side skirts (model car for them on RotaryExtreme’s site)
OEM Mudguards painted to match
OEM 99 Spec Taillights
OEM 99 Spec Combo Lights
All body work was done from December of 2004 to February of 2005 by Superior Auto Body, one of the best body shops in the Tampa Bay Area. Over $12,000 is invested into the exterior into my car.

Ignition:
3 MSD 6a Ignition Amplifiers
Custom Plug Wires

Power:
Custom 200A alternator powdercoated black
Optima Red Top relocated to driver’s bin

Suspension:
H&R Springs (1.25” drop on all corners)
Koni Yellow Shocks (set 75% stiff front, 50% stiff rear)

Wheels:
Enkei Aegis in Hyper Silver with polished lip (18x8.5 44 offset front, 18x9.5 45 offset rear)

Tires:
Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 (245/35-18 front, 275/35-18) Great tread with only about 10k miles

Sound System:
Eclipse 8443 Head Unit
Infinity Kappa Perfect 5.1 Components in the doors
2 JL 10W0s
Polk Audio MOMO Carbon C300.2 2-channel amp (powering components)
Polk Audio MOMO Carbon C500.1 (powering subs)
3 layers of Dynamat Extreme in the doors (no rattles)

Interior:
UK Rx-8 5-speed lighted shift knob
Custom shift boot from Redline to match shift knob shifting
Driver’s seat was redone less than 10k miles ago and is very, very nice
Passenger seat is perfect
Carbon Fiber dash overlay
Fairly dark window tint (probably 10%)
OEM Aluminum Rx-7 Sill Plates

Known Issues:
1. The odometer started working intermittently about 4 months ago and since then, has stopped working all together. It is probably just a short somewhere, as the backlighting comes on when the headlights are on, but the numbers do not display.

2. The transmission is a bit noisy. It shifts fine, but it does have some rattles and whirs. My mechanic told me it was missing some type of a spring that was backordered through Mazda. I’ve never really followed through on fixing it since I usually just listen to the sound system and don’t notice the noise.

3. The differential will whine some on deceleration. I’ve had the wear checked on the gears, and there are no problems. It might have something to do with the differential brace; however, there are no vibration problems.

4. Passenger interior door handle is broken. I’m currently looking for a replacement.

5. The turbo has a bent fin on the compressor wheel. I have not actually seen this problem for myself, but AFAIK, it is not a serious problem and does not HAVE to be fixed. I had planned on having the turbo removed and rebuilt along with some machine work to fit a bigger wheel; however, I’ve decided against doing any more modifications.

6. A compression test was done several months ago with a Mazda compression tester. The numbers were lower than desirable (IIRC, mid 6s); however, the car has done fine for several months now. Typically, it has been my experience (and it seems that the general consensus) that the 3mm motors tend to have a bit lower compression. The car starts and drives fine every time, but I wanted to be upfront about everything. I have been premixing ever since the compression check, and things seem to have gotten better as well although I have not gotten another compression check done.

7. The AC has been converted to R-134A and blows cold unless it is EXTREMELY hot outside. It just needs to be recharged, and you will be good to go.

Below are a few pictures. If you want to see the general consensus about what most people of my car, click the link in my sig.

I remember this car from the 7 boards. We once had a conversation reagarding my T-66 '94 that I sold about a year and a half ago. Small world.

Anyway, Good luck with the sale. Honestly, I think the $29K is a little steep. I had about $45K wrapped up in my car and got $27.5 for it. Even that was top dollar at the time. Just hold out for the right buyer.

Again, good luck.

Hey Bud...small internet!

I sold it January 04 to a kid in Denver. I drove an STi for a year after that and then got an '04 Z06. I recently traded that in for a big Chevy Silverado Z71 so I could get a ski boat and wait for the second year C6 Z06. Now all I have to play with are a Jetta GLi and my wife's WRX wagon. Neither of which get any aftermarket attention to tell the truth...why bother?

Montgomery huh? We've been in San Antonio since April. I'll have to look you up when I go to ASBC in the fall.

BTW...Sorry for the hijack!

I have seen this RX-7 and it is clean as hell. If I did not already have plans for more mods I would be all over this car..
