Picking car up-look for bad paint?

1006 Views 7 Replies 7 Participants Last post by  Dennis Jurs
I have a black Z...no paint problems. My business partner in Wisconsin picked up his black Z last month and noticed a slight translucent vertical area beneath the door handle approx. 5" by 10"...looks like some base coating was not evenly applied. Only noticeable in direct sunlight. Tough for someone not looking for it to notice it. Best thing is to check it in sunlight out of the showroom. Tell the dealer upfront about your concern in case you return the car days later after noticing any paint problems.
Enjoy!

I noticed a little bit of orange peal beneath the driver's side mirror on my black Z06. I would have never seen it unless a friend of mine who is very anal retentive pointed it out to me.

Flaws in the paint show up best under flourescent light.

Look hardest at trunk and door edges. Missed the paint but good clear coat there.

This is just my personal opinion..but..I dont consider these "flaws" I look at them as "birth marks" that make my baby a one-of-a-kind and I love every one of them!

Picking my Blk Z06 tomorrow with minimal prep done to it, I want it hand washed only to look for possible paint problems prior to signing final papers. I've read that some black cars were thin or even shy of paint in some areas in the past. Has anyone experienced this on their delivery, and if they did, is it in a spot that seems to reoccur on different cars? If it was apparent, I would probably decline delivery. Hoping for great paint however!! Thanx!

Should be no particular problems with the paint, especially black. The leading edges under the hood and trunk lid may have uneven paint but it's not a big deal, in fact it may be the clear coat, not the paint. Any way you can't see it, so it should not be a problem.

Do look for scratches, especially on black cars, these show up very easily if the car is not washed properly. My 97 was black, so I know about keeping a black car scratch free. If you want, e-mail me privately, and I will send you some tips on how to wash it, polish it etc.
