I can make you all feel better. I'm paying $680 a month!!! and that is through USAA. I'm a single 24 year old male. But that covers 100/300 $500 deductable, with a $1 Million umbrella policy and renters insurance (renting a house away at college.) This also is coverage for my '72 Vette, '85 Chevy 4x4, '96 Z-28, and '98 Chevy dually 4x4. I told USAA that I was getting an '02 Z06 and getting rid of the '85 and '98 Chevy 4x4's and it is only going to go up $400 a year. The cars that are "pleasure" cars are only $120-$250 every 6 months each. It is the one 25,000 mile a year car/truck that does the damage at $2500 or more. And renters insurance is only $380 a year or so.
But in January a ticket goes off my record (2 pointer for a bogus exhibition of speed which USAA rates the same as a DUI or vehicular manslaughter!!!) So that should drop my payment from about $8,000 a year down to about $2,000 a year. Then I turn 25 in May of next year and that should drop it in half again maybe.
I learned my lesson. A lawyer would have gone to the DA with the exhibition of speed and gotten a speeding ticket for me. It would have saved me about $14,000!!!!
