Potential Z06 Owner Needs Advice

Hello Folks,

This is my first post here, but I have read a bunch of your messages to get a feel for the place. I am seriously contemplating moving from my 2000 Lexus GS400 into a 2002 Z06.

The big questions I have are: What is the best way to buy one of these things? Dealer? Online? Friend with a GM discount? Is there any chance of getting one somewhere between invoice and MSRP?

Thanks for any help and advice...

I'd suggest checking with some of the Forum dealers. You'll get a good price and great service. I bougt mine from Karl Johanson at Chuck Hutton Chevrolet in Memphis, TN and was very happy with the experience.
I was treated very well by Kevin Will at Les Stanford Chev. in Dearborn, MI. As you can see I don't live anywhere near MI... But he found my Z in NC and had it to me in less than 1.5 weeks. When my local (Bellevue, WA) dealer would take nothing less than $4K over M.S.R.P. for a CANADIAN car with 300+ miles on it... Kevin got mine to me (in Feb.) for list.

I think the economy is such that now even better (below MSRP) are easier to obtain. IMHO

I got mine at Kerbeck Corvettes. I ordered over the phone and picked up at the Museum. I live in Minnesota and Kerbeck is in Atlantic City NJ. All went fine. I got mine for MSRP. www.kerbeck.com. Look at the 2001 inventory and you will see they have a huge selection of corvettes.
Believe it or not but I bought my new MY Z on EBAY. I got the car at MSRP. I live in Maine but picked the car up in Penn.
Oh and one other thing. THE Z06 ROCKS!!! No questions asked you should get it.
Go with the Z06....it's nothing like your current ride. And, as you can see from the previous posts, you can shop around the country if needed. If you're looking for a 2002, I doubt you'll find a discount. If you wanted to get a 2001, you might find a dealer willing to horse trade with you since they will want to move existing inventory.

Good luck! /phpBB/images/smiles/icon_wink.gif

Welcome to The Forum , enjoy it. Don't rush into purchase, the car is awesome and you will love it. There plenty of was to purchase and save money or at least msrp.........
Hello GS4,

I traded my 98 GS400 for a Z06 last september. The GS400 was a wonderful car, but, kind of boring to drive. The Z is much more enjoyable. But you should be prepared for the louder cabin noise (took me a day or two to adjust.) I never looked back.

Many of the forum dealers can find you a car for MSRP, or even less, for the 2001 model year...I think you would have a harder time for less than MSRP on the 2002, or just wait until they hit the streets, the dealer prices will begin to drop.

Happy hunting!
Mitch,

You have received a lot of good advice above to which I can add nothing.

So I'll just Welcome you to the forum. /phpBB/images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif

I bought mine via the Internet from a dealer located in Florida. The car never saw Florida and was shipped courtesy delivery to a local dealer that did the inspection. Go to http://www.gmbuypower.com and use the locate dealer in the menu to search for dealers in your locale. Send out feelers to those of interest, about pricing on a 2002 Z06. Supply and demand will determine your price, but with the economic turndown, I would bet $2k off MSRP is possible.
It really is a great car. Good luck /phpBB/images/smiles/icon_smile.gif

Welcome to the forum!

I agree with Harley about Kevin Will. I have dealt with Kevin and Stanford Chevrolet for couple of years now. I have my '02 Electron Blue on order from Kevin right now!
Stanford is one of the biggest Vet dealers in America. Their service department has always treated my cars properly and professionally. They have shipped dozens of cars out of state, and have the allocation available to get you the car you want in a reasonable time frame. I have recommended numerous people to Kevin and I do receive a referral fee if anyone buys from him, and I always split the referral fee 50/50 with the new customer. Any one is eligible for the referral after being a customer of Stanford, not just me.
A phone call is free, and you can decide for yourself. Good Luck....you will absolutely love the Z06!
Kevin can be reached at 1-800-699-VETT. Just tell him Zippy sent 'ya!

One more thing. There are numerous brokers out there who are willing to help anyone find a new or used Corvette. I have had personal battles with some of them because they disagree with me referring customers to dealers. I ask this question: "Why use a broker, when YOU can shop and search yourself?" How? The internet, this forum, other forums, the yellow pages, 800 phone numbers, vet magazines, Hemmings Motor News, Newspapers, libraries, etc. Email me privately if you like, I always enjoy talking Vets with other enthusiasts, and I get even more personal satisfaction from helping others find their dream Vet at a "FAIR" price without a middle man charging hundreds of dollars!

Good luck, and let us all know how your shopping experience goes. BTW, if Stanford can't help you out for any reason, get back to me and I will be glad to help you (or anyone), find a Vet from numerous other reliable, honest, dealers.

Thanks very much for all the informative posts! I think I now at least have a plan of action. I tested the waters for trade-in with the dealer in VA who had the MYellow '01 at $1K under MSRP. His trade-in offer was a real rapin' so it looks like I will have to be patient and sell the GS4 if I am to do this.

Problem is, the GS4 is my daily driver and is loaded up with aftermarket goodies which will have to be removed and sold separately (wheels & tires, shocks & springs, intake, Borla exhaust, chassis braces, etc). I have already checked the insurance and it is affordable; only $120 more than the GS! Even the spouse approves.

Oh well, should be an interesting mission if I decide to accept it. /phpBB/images/smiles/icon_smile.gif
