The clutch and aluminum synchronizers are the weak points. The synchronizers were upgraded to steel (actually iron) in mid 2003. :z:
Drive the car with some reason and respect and you will be surprised how long every will last. :ity:nsxcorvette said:Are there any ways to prevent the clutch and sycros from going? I"ve heard of a couple people jacking them up from jamming through the gears with too little clutch and too much gas... Is it just a matter of not being too hard on the clutch?
Do a search for old threads on 3-4th gear shift problems. If you have the earlier '03 model, your tranny has aluminum shift forks that tend to slightly bend at high rpm stress levels and will harm the syncros. There is a service bulletin for the dealer to install the iron shift forks and new syncros under warranty. I believe the cutoff date was Mar/April '03 when they changed to the iron shift forks, so you may need the upgrade. Mine gets stuck in 3rd on occasion and I am able to get it back to neutral, but some cars have to be hauled in on a flatbed to be repaired. Mine goes in later this year for the upgrade. Tell me more please (I think I want to know?!)
