Ok, so the Column lock shit just happened to me. BUT, it didn't lock the column. I could turn the wheel just fine, but the BCM senses that the column lock isn't working, and goes into fail mode, which causes the PCM to pull fuel. (this is from the service manual)

Any ideas? I'm at my grandparents right now (which means I have tools), but basically carless until monday when I can take it to the dealer.

Is there any way to trick the BCM in to resetting? I've pulled fuses #23, 25, 29 (#25 is what the book said to pull and wait).
That didn't work, currently the battery is disconnected.

It was rather hot here 105 or so, and in car must pretty hot. I've seen a few things that said heat could be a contributing factor. Also, I saw something about dirty keys (cleaned it).

Nothings worked so far. I just want to trick the computer into letting me drive.

(Ok, so I'll order a bypass)

I had this problem once but I pulled the key for 10 sec and everything was fine. I know your not close to a dealer but I would call one and have them tow it in and make them pay for it. Sounds like something has to be reset, but a C5 Tech should be able to walk you through it. If I find anything I will let you know.

mgarfias,

Try cleaning the contacts on the resister located on your key. A pencil eraser works well, but be sure it is cleaned of any eraser residue before inserting your key. Dirty contacts can cause this error.

Look in the service manual and look at the fuel pump schmatic. Follow it to the computer and see if their is anything else. Its probely something you will kick yourself in the butt for once you figure it out. I had a 3 gen RX7 and if the radio lost power with the car turned off. The manual said send it to mazda. well I found by unhooking the battery three times in a row with the car shut off it reset the radio for me. Worth a try??

The "Pull Key and Wait Ten Seconds" is not always the column lock, in most cases this message is related to the alarm system, the car reads the key as the wrong one trying to be used, and sometimes if you pull the key in and out quickly you will get this message, the computer just "thinks" that someone is trying to steal the car.

Pulling the battery worked... Sort of. It runs and drives fine, UNTIL I pull the key. It still gives the pull key message. I'll try the eraser trick right now.

It was too late to get it to the dealer last night, and they didnt have the parts (I was just going to buy them and fix it) in stock.

It'll have to go in monday morning, unless I can figure it out.

Any other ideas?

I'm just going to let chevy take care of it on monday (unless someone has some other idea that might work).

Thanks guys

Well, this steering column lock thing finally stranded me today. I tried the eraser trick to no avail. What do you do with this problem? There is really nothing wrong with the car. Do I have to call the dealer or will it unlock when it gets cooler? Does anyone know of a perminant fix?
Thanks for any suggestions.

You can try with the key in the on position jerking the wheel back and fourth, it will sometimes unlock, if that does not work it's a flat bed to the dealer for a new column lock, when you get it back you may want to install a column lock bypass so this does not happen again.

Forgot that one. Thanks Carl!! That happened on my 99 FRC and Sherylann went out and jerked the hell out of the steering wheel and it freed it up. Wives have their purpose!! /phpBB/images/smiles/icon_lol.gif

Well, it started registering codes. But with the column unlocked, jerking the wheel didn't help.

The only thing that let it move was pulling the battery for awhile (5 mins didn't work for some reason - was more like hours).

Anyway, shes at the dealer getting fixed. I get to go down there tomorrow and show them how bad the brake warpage is cuz they seem to have no sensitivity and can't feel rotors that are .005" out of true.
