Hi!

I was considering buying an older C5 (low kms) - so took a look at it today - but:
a) The engine had a lot of sand (not grease/grime - but actual sand, look like someone was driving on the actual beach)
b) The owner didn't mind driving it hard (drifting/flooring with traction control off, etc).

My questions:

a) Should the dirty engine bay with *sand* everywhere be a major concern for me? I.e., is it potentially like 5-10k in repairs in the near future if sand got in pistons/other engine components, or is that just normal? (I think its the first time I've ever seen a "dirty" engine bay on a corvette - but this was sand & crap, not just grime)
b) I usually drive my sports cars "safely" (I mainly like it for the look, not to drive hard) - so - does the fact that the owner doesn't mind driving it hard/drifting/fishtailing/etc with traction control off pose any potential problems (unseen necessary repairs) aside from the brakes/etc?

thanks for your help!

Sounds like a flood car to me. If it is it will never be right.
Go find yourself a different car, you can't buy a rough car cheep enough.
