I just got a call from my dealership saying that they can do the ring replacement for my 01.

They have a mechanic onboard who used to run his own shop, specializing in Vettes, have spoken to him briefly about this issue, cannot remember his name. His original statement to me was "don't let anyone take this engine apart, even me", this does not give me a warm and fuzzy feeling.

I am looking for advice on what I should be asking him prior to letting him touch my car. Is there a specific Corvette certification from the General I should be looking for?

I know I want to talk to him about the length of time this is going to take versus what he will be paid for to ensure he will treat her right, and not take shortcuts to save time.

What else should I be looking for in order to feel comfortable that the job will be done right.

If I am uncomfortable with this shop, can I specify another shop to do the work, say you for instance, or do I have to go through the documentation process with your dealership all over again?

Thanks for any help...

Questions, and suggestions

Hi there,
Well, first off, where did you buy the car, at what dealership???
I happen to know that there is a top notch Vette tech right in your area, and I need to know if you bought it from her dealership.
Anyway, we mechanics, that serve Corvette, have many courses that we take, however, there is nothing set in stone for this particular job. As for the mechanics wanting to do it, I can relate as to why they might not want to do the job. It takes me 4.5 days to do this job, and it is very time consuming. Everything has to be toleranced accordingly.
I am sure that they are just being cautious, as I would be, and I can help further if needed.
Please keep me posted, c4c5

Bought it at Cheverolet of Lowell. The Vette specialist there is a guy, will get his name on Thursday when I get back into town...

Any recommendations you have would be highly regarded.

Thanks for the response,
Mark
