I had the wheels off the Z06 today for a good Zaino'ing before the Corvette and Chevy expo this weekend. I had noticed a couple of chips just looking through the wheel, but upon closer inspection I noticed that they were chipped in many places, probably 20 chips per caliper, front and rear. I don't know what GM is painting these with but it is not very durable. I only have 1800 miles on the car and never run it on rough roads so this is doubly distressing to me. In the 8 months that I had the calipers painted on the 2000 FRC, not one scratch or chip and they were painted with Rustoleum. Luckily, I was ablt to touch them up with some of the leftover Rustoleum which is a perfect color match. Looks like I'll be repainting these after the show this weekend. Why can't GM use quality parts?
SS, it sounds like the manufacturer did not do a good cleaning job before they applied the finish.

SS - I can not say that I have seen any chips on mine after 2300 miles and I clean them with a sponge through the wheels when I wash the car. I will look closer now on your report. I will be looking for you and your car at the GRB this weekend!!
Dave/SS you really inspired me with attention to detail as well as your creativity with regard to your Z. You really got my creative juices flowing. SS I guess this is what this board is all about! Thanks! FUBU69/LES

This weekend the Corvette and Chevy Expo will be at the George R. Brown convention center downtown off US59. I have gone the last 4 years and it is wonderful.
Its 95% vettes of all vintages and the rest high interest chevys such as Camaros, Chevelle SSs, '50s era, etc. If you love vettes and our automotive heritage, this show is for you. Aftermarket parts vendors will be there selling their wares as well. Opens 10 am Sat and Sun and closes 7 pm on Sat and 6 pm Sun. There is also space reserved for folks who want to sell their private vehicles.
David, I've been driving both Zs all winter in all kinds of weather and crap on the road. I haven't noticed any chipping!! Perhaps your calipers were contaminated with oil or some other substance before they were painted.
I'd take it back to the dealer and let them sort it out.

No chips here, but those tires are so soft rocks always get stuck to them, I hear them bouncing off all the time, this could be your problem.

I noticed a chunk of paint missing from my passenger's side front caliper the other day. I thought it was just a fluke and fixed it with my exterior touch-up paint (torch red). After hearing about yours, I will start keeping a close eye on mine. If mine starts doing what yours are doing, GM will be replacing my calipers.
My side vents are also getting pitted like yours, but I dont know what I will do about that. I may wait until near the end of my 3/36 warranty to address it. I am scared to let the dealer touch the body of my car more than they have to. I don't drive my car in the rain or snow, so I am a little unhappy about this. Still love the car though.

No chips on the first one here either. One of the guys from Whidbey Island did get a small piece of stone caught between the caliper and the wheel, damaging the inside of the wheel in the fall. He was going to buy an entire new rim, however I strongly suggested he simply get it repaired at a wheel repair shop. I will keep an eye on the new Zap's calipers.
Took the car to MSRH this afternoon to see just how the C7 Z07 19/20 Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2s would handle the cool winter weather.
Took a laps or 2 to get up to temp and after that they were very predictable.
But I think the larger rolling diameter of the 19/20's is throwing the Active...
Hard to believe its been 17 years of ownership, 112000 total miles - 5 years, 82000 miles & 2 LS6s, 12 years & 30000 miles on the LS7 Z07 upgrade, 5 sets of wheels later and we still enjoy this car immensely.
Here are the various setups and wheels the car has had since new, progressing from OEM...

I like the look of the OEM C6 guards and want to install a set on my C5-I know there are carbon fiber ones out there but they seem too large to me. I can't seem to find a vender that sells them for a C5-the only thing I have seen is people modifying the C6 versions to fit a C5. Anybody know of a...
01 z06, for sale. At a dealer, 3 hours from me, this is their photo of the engine compartment. besides missing the engine covers., can you all tell by pic if this is a 01 z06 ls6 engine? Per vin# this is one of the last vettes made in 01.
