Rev Limiter Tested

Just reporting in. Got up this morning 603 miles.

Sporting around, ran into some C5 friends at Car Toys. They insist I drive off so they could listen and look. No burnout. Rolling launch... Excuse me, more like a rocket launch... Big time surprise...

First gear. Pop, pop, pause... What the hell was that??? Hit the limiter before I even looked down. HOW EMBARRASSING!!!!

Second gear. No pop, pause... What the hell was THAT. Check tach, off the limiter, but still right up there... REALLY feeling stupid now. Can not believe how fast this thing wraps up.

Telling it like it was...

Rev limiter comes up really fast!! I gave a buddy a ride at WOT and really embarrassed myself, I thought.

I raced a Mustang Cobra a few weeks ago and the TC/AH cut me off at the start and the rev limiter cut me off at the end of first.

Result. Embarassed myself with the cut-offs and Embarassed the mustang with the power.

Still kicked major booty.

Yeah, but I'm supposed to be too cool to pull a stunt like that.

Just ask me. Yesterday.

If I can't make fun of myself, then it's not fun any more... heh, heh...

I have to pay closer attention to the tach but it's difficult when things are happening so fast and I'm watching the road.

Yep, I'm sure we have all done that... I know I have, even when I'm trying to watch it and the road. It comes up very very fast when launching. I guess I need more practice

I hit that limiter once and awhile myself. The other day on a clear stretch of road I opened it up from first, and just stared at the tach as it climbed. I noticed that the tach does not appear to be catching up with the engine. I hit the limiter at around 6200-6300 instead of 6500 (according to instrumentation.) So there is part of my problem. Damn engine revs too fast!

And, I heard that 2nd gear was going to be lowered a notch for 2002. Which I must admit is a good thing. I have noticed 2nd gear is barely a blip when running through the gearbox. I hit the limiter between 2nd and 3rd more times than I care to admit...

has anyone looked into a shiftlight? I know sometimes they can be a pain, but it might be a simple, easy fix for the problem. I did notice the same, in the low gears it does eat the RPM's like crazy.

I can't seem to stay out of that rev limiter. I took it out the other day to play a little. Needed a little fix of that Z06 power so I find a nice strech of country road. Roll it on easy to WOT,hit the rev limiter, easy shift to second, hit the rev limiter, harder shift to third, traction/handling activated. This car just will not let me have any fun.
I was wondering what the easiest way to raise the limiter set point would be. Hypertech? I don't really worry about exceeding the 6500 rpm limit briefly while shifting but I get real tired of hearing that thing start burbling on every redline shift. If the old big blocks could get away with a 6500 redline I think that an occasional blast to 6700 or so isn't going to kill the Z06.

I think Nelson has a good idea. A light would be perfect. Something you can see without having to look down behind the steering wheel (at 120 MPH).

Is this 2001 or 1969? Talking about shift lights at 6,500 RPM on a street legal SB Chevy!!! Must be dreaming...

Better go crank that thing and wake myself... heh, heh...
