Summit Point on Saturday turned out to be a repeat weatherwise of 2004: rain and cold in the morning, clearing up (briefly) in the afternoon.

We switched to the Goodyear rain tires for the first qualifying session of the day. Everyone was predicting a sweep of the top spots by the AWD Subbies and Mitsus in this wet session. I was motivated to prove everyone wrong.

So I go and just drive. I really like the rain; I don't know why, but I just do. Sandi Kryder comes over the radion telling me I am doing real well.

I finish the session and Joe Aquilante drops by at our paddock to congratulate me. "For what?" I ask. "A very impressive drive out there" is the response. Here are the first session's results:

1. David Pintaric T1 Corvette 1:35.066
2. David Rosenblum T2 Suburu 1:36.409
3. Chuck Hemmingson T2 Suburu 1:36.562
4. Bill Ziegler T2 Mitsu Evo 1:38.360
5. Kristian Skavnes T2 Suburu 1:39.220
6. Bill Moore T2 Camaro 1:39.703
7. Rob Hines T2 Camaro 1:39.858
8. Dominic Cimino T2 Neon 1:38.893
9. Seq Quinones T2 Camaro 1:40.305
10. W D Meyers T1 Corvetee 1:41.179
11. Kenneth Owens T2 Nissan 1:42.999
12. John Yarosz T2 CTS-V 1:43.116
13. Scott Linton T2 BMW 1:43.158
14. Pete Kulka T1 Corvette 1:43.164
15. Andrew Aquilante T1 Corvette 1:43.495
16. Guy Pierre Pavagaue SSB Camaro 1:43.691
17. Jim Ocuto SSB Miata 1:44.325
18. Jason Berkeley T1 Corvette 1:45.040
19. Ken Payson SSC Honda Civic 1:45.089
20. Chip Ott T1 Corvette 1:45.578

I list to top twenty of this first session to illustrate how much the rain equalizes the field. But also to "brag" a bit about holding off the AWD cars in the slop. I recieved many kudos from them, as they were quite surprised.

Needless to say I was praying for a long hard rain for the afternoon.

The afternoon session was dry, but the track still had some rain water seeping on the track, so it was very "touch and go." The field settled down relative to classes so I will only list the T1 Corvettes:

1. Andrew Aquilante 1:21.845
2. Chip Ott 1:22.829
3. David Pintaric 1:22.961
4. Bob Kahn 1:23.544
5. W D Meyers 1:23.710
6. Peter Kulka 1:24.275
7. Jason Berkeley 1:25.182
8. Evan Kesselman 1:25.265
9. Bill Loomis 1:25.412

Joe Aquilante went off track and did some damage to his car. He is alright, but there is some repairs in order and he doubted his ability to race tomorrow.

Sunday's weather looks to be dry, but I sure am trying to learn some rain dances that work!

Way to go! You must be very smooth to excel at driving in the rain. You appear to be improving significantly with each additional event. I hope you do well in the race.

Joe was driving Ed Amonsen's old yellow car; this is the same one Phil Croyle drove last week. Andrew is driving "old reliable" #36.

Just got back from the track about an hour ago. Will provide a blow by blow report later tonight. Not a good day for me, but no major mechanical woes (I think). Still disappointing, though.

Hey David, I have been watching an in car video of you running at Memphis along with Subdriver (and some other Z's) and I can't wait to test my skills there! :thumb: I have an event there in May and am really looking forward to it. :D

Thanks! Sorry, didn't see this one before I read the race report.
