Hi all,

I am currently in South Korea and I am getting ready to order a new EB Z06. I have the option to change to a '04 if I decide to later (courtesy of AAFES, bless them).

Anyway, the real question. I am trying to make up my mind about the side moldings. I can't decide whether the Z06 looks better with or without them.

So, this is really just a poll, and I would appreciate any input you have on the subject.

Thanks!

p.s. if I don't post the poll correctly, someone please tell me how to do it.

I ordered mine with moldings, but after owning the car and looking at it for a year now, I have changed my mind.
I started taking them off last night. I didn't have much time so I only took off the front driver side piece. I will finish it tonight. If you are not sure order it with, you can always take them off.
JMHO

Good luck with the Z

Hello JMHO, how are you removing the moldings? Are there any marks, clear coat indents, or scratches left behind? Are the moldings heavy enough that there is a weight advantage to removing them? I have thought about removing mine off my '02 TR Z06.

You could always order them, and if you don't like them, take them off.

It's easy to remove them, but a real pain in the ass to add them.
Joe:)
this is the perfect option! :yeadog:

It is what I did... They are still on the car, mainly because it is a daily driver, and sometimes I am too lazy to park out in the weeds.:D . But I do like the ones without the BSM's just as well.

no marks at all
just use a hair dryer to warm up the glue and they pull off
you have to get them pretty warm and the glue is very sticky
but it cleans right off with 3m adhesive remover
some people use fishing line to slide it behind and slice through the glue, but I don't like that idea because if there is some dirt trapped behind the molding it could scratch

I had them on my '98 coupe and thought they looked okay.....didn't put them on my '01 ragtop and thought that it looked good....left them off the Z and I'm glad they 're not there! Personal choice.

Worth removing for weight savings alone.
That makes about as much sense as removing the hood and trunk emblems just for the sake of reducing weight. How about the wheel center caps and the valve caps? And, and...that antenna too...that would be good for a few ounces.

Next time you are going to drive, remember to not wear an undershirt and don't forget to take the laces out of your shoes too:D

I got them when I didn't want them because most dealers order the Z06's with the full load (4 big options and the front plate bracket is one of them.. Heh).

I have a love/hate relationship with them actually. I don't like the looks of them, but I know that they will be useful to me if I leave them on. I personally think it breaks up the lines on the side of the car and reminds me of something that you'd find on a '57 Chevy instead of a '03 Vette.

Mine are coming off next week. I've got an appointment with the body guy at my local dealer. He's going to remove them carefully and I'm going to keep them in case I ever have to turn my car into a daily driver. It will also be nice to give them to the next owner if I sell it. The BSM's are on the dealer sticker, so I might as well include them with the car. They just won't be on the car. ;)

I guess I would leave them on the car if I drove the car all the time and had to leave it in parking lots. Now, if I can only figure out how to remove the BSM's on my 1:18 scale Maisto Z06 die-cast model. ;)

I like them even though mine is not a daily driver. I think they break up the flat lines of the side view.

IMHO they also make the car look like its traveling 100 MPH sitting still they look like they are being "pulled" from the shark vents.

To each his own

Nope, sorry, just plain looks better without them IMHO. I tossed it around for awhile and decided against it, Glad I did !

Where you going after Korea ? Bring your Z to Germany, the autobahn is a blast in that car !
Not sure where I am going after Korea, yet. Last I heard, they thought Germany was still an option for me. I just didn't jump for it right away. Told them I would think about it. I knew that Korea would drive me crazy (no pun intended, but the traffic here has got to be the worst in the world. I probably average about 30 kph on my daily commute). I just can't wait to get back to a normal country I can really DRIVE in!!! Might go back to NC, or CO, but who knows......maybe Germany.

Thanks everyone, for your input. This is really giving me some good ideas and something to think about.:)

Oh contrere!!

The BSM's do have a function.

Wind tunnel testing has shown:
1. BSM add a small downforce componant
2. They aid and add Laminar Flow and help the car accelerate and have a higher top speed
3. They prevent the hood "spillover" at the cowl from wrapping around and underneath the rear wheels and help prevent rear end lift at speed.

This is why smart racers without a rear wing leave them on.
