Buy a new set, and rip the old ones off.

Seriously, thats what happened to me - I ripped a wire apart trying to get it off of #5.

When you get the new set, make sure you get some dielectric grease to smear on the boot so that the boot will come off the plug easy next time.

Don't do like I did and not have the new wires available before you break the old one. That sucked.

On the tough ones, I'll grab the boot with a set of regular pliers just above where the tip of the plug would be located and twist and pull at the same time. If it's really stubborn, I'll get behind the boot with a screw driver to persuade it off the plug at the same time pulling and twisting with the pliers. I also use the dielectric grease when I put them back on.
