John...family is doing well. My oldest son had a distinguished 5 years in the USCG...got his own cutter command at 25 and was one of five out of five hundred 2nd Lieutenants to receive promotion to full Lieutenant a year early! He was being "fast tracked." Alas, much to his mother's chagrin he decided not to make it a career so he completed his commitment, went to Columbia University for his MBA in finance, and now is a VP at an investment bank in NYC doing M&A...talk about a pivot...lol.

I hear you about caretaker status. I think in general car forums are not what they use to be in terms of membership participation...not sure why other than maybe life has just gotten a bit more complicated over the last several years so priorities for time have changed...though I do still find myself "web-surfing" quite a bit...lol.

BTW...here is a picture from last year in New Orleans...my son and several of his former classmates participated in the wedding of my son's best friend from the Academy (his friend is making the Coast Guard as a career)...he still fit in to his dress whites. Notice all the "armor" on his chest...his other classmates were complaining that even though he had been out of service for 5 years he still had more decorations than they did...lol. That is my wife and my son's girlfriend in the picture.
Glad to hear everyone is doing well. It's not surprising your son went for a career change. The military is not for everyone and if you're a real go-getter then there are a lot of opportunities out their to succeed in. Sounds like he knows what he wants and is going for it.

Strange, for some reason I couldn't expand the pic. It says I was forbidden! Don't they know who I am?

I've noticed the trend these days seem to social media like facebook. I'm a member of the Z06 and other Corvette groups on fb and they are hoping. There are literally 100's of post per hour. It's hard to keep up with all the posts so I don't try. There are a few guys from here that are on fb so I don't get lonely. :lol

Anyway, everything here is status-quo so no changes of any significance.

Haha...I will need to let those pixels in that picture know who they are dealing with...lol. Yeah...I guess you are right about FB making a dent in some of the car forums. I don't belong to any car groups on FB as I'd likely get banned in a few minutes...lol. Nope...haven't changed.

As for my son, you hit the nail on the head. I think there were two factors...the bureaucracy (he is all about efficiency and he had to deal with a lot of ineptitude) and having to move every couple of years. In the end, he is happy in what he is doing, though I know on occasion he does miss certain aspects of The Guard.

Is Mike still on, or did he give up on this site completely? Just curious.

I'm not sure what happened to Mike. I haven't read a post by him in about a year or so. It's like he just got fed up and called it quits. It's kind of strange that I still hang around, I guess I'm just a creature of habit and I have been such a part of this site for awhile, I figured I would stick around and run off the occasional troll.

So, these days my biggest challenge is to figure out where the wife wants to vacaion at. She is constantly bombarding me with ideas to go here or there. I'm like, can't we just stay home and drink beer with our friends? Nope.

Do you still have a Corvette, Don? That new ZR1 has your name all over it!

John...still have my 2003...runs great...just don't always find the time to drive it. The new ZR1 is bad-azz, for sure. But I honestly have better things to do with $120K...lol.

I let my oldest son and his GF decide on where we vacation. Last year we did the 5 National Parks in Utah...I'd definitely go back there again. The year before that, Ireland, and the year before that Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons. This year we are going to Poland. My son pays for all of our flights with his frequent flyer mileage as well as the costs for the rental vehicle. I usually pick up all the hotel costs and the food. This year, however, save for our stay in Lublin, he's picking up all the hotel rooms with his points from all of his stays. Next year, they are talking about going to Portugal, though my wife recently interjected she wouldn't mind going to Canada...I like that idea...maybe we can bring back some steel and aluminum under the nose of customs and resell it.:grin2:

Good to hear you still have a Corvette. I still have my 2008. It sits in the garage mostly and is a great collector of dust. I try to drive it at least once a week to the old geezer luncheon with members of the Corvette Club.

Sounds like you guys get to travel on the cheap, realatively speaking. Free sky miles are a blessing! The fact that you travel with your son and his wife says a lot for your family structure! You gus are evidently close and you don't see that too much these days. I'm somewhat envious. Good on you guys!

My wife and I are planning a trip to Australia next year. We're going to spend the most part in the outback regions and try to seperate ourselves from the touristy places. That's the plan anyway. It should be a good trip and I'm realling looking forward to visiting places I missed while I was stationed there some 40 years ago. Wow, can't believe it's been that long.

Have fun in Poland. Take lots of pics and share them if you care to. I like to live vicariously through others!

I will be sure to post up pics here.

BTW...my oldest son is not married yet...they have been living together for 2 years. I am thinking they will get engaged this year. Middle son will be married in the fall...he and his fiancee bought a house last year. My youngest son is also living with his GF...he and his GF bought a house this past January. I also think he will get engaged this year. Glad I had sons...lol.

Jacob, those pics really bring back some memories, thanks. And for some reason I look a lot younger then.

Jub, that was Lingenfelters Stage 3 C5R 427 TT package. Sold it at Barrett-Jackson in Reno in 2013 to Ken Lingenfelter of all people. Sometimes I wish I still had it.

Wow, I got a ride in Bbunting's C5R TT at one of the Z06 fests and holy crap, was that thing fast! Damn near sucked the breath out of me when it was on the boost!

What is going on here? Are you guys giving up on this site?

I asked a question on the C7 site, and it came back as an error message.

Yea, it's pretty dead. Most everyone has migrated to other social media sites like facebook, Instagram, etc. It's just the natural order of things and an evolving progression.
