Well what I thought to be a relatively simple warranty repair is costing me 3K! A few months ago I purchased a 99 FRC, before buying it I had it checked out and mechanically all was perfect. I picked this car beacause it already had some mods done and thought how great! Wrong! The car was lowered and this has now turned out to be a major problem. Yesterday I brought it into the dealer for a leaf spring gone bad. Simple. No, turns out who ever lowered the car chose to shave off more than need be and majorly rig things and therefore the spring is now resting right up against the rack, in both the front and back. Also after closely inspecting you can see the strain on the arms and joints. I compared this to a non lowered C5 and the differnce is hugh all sorts of problems to arise.

Here is the solution only way I see it unless I get some feedback real fast. Replace both front and rear cradle and return back to stock. This is only way dealer will cover future costs. According to them this is a 3K job amounting to 12 hours of work to drop both the front and rear end. Looking at the rear end while up on the lift I saw also where the spring was interfering. Dealer now won't cover rear diff. unless this is fixed. It seems as if I'm caught between a hugh boulder and a hard place, I'm just sick about the whole thing:puke:

I'm pissed at myself, for not inspecting the undercarriage more careful and at the time concentrating under the hood and how awesome it looked. But I'm also pissed at the previous owner or mechanic that
would do this kind of work.

Well thanks for letting me vent. And if anyone has an insight please send my way.

I don't know florida that well but if it was me..I'd get the car out of the dealership and into a reputable Vette shop...

I think there are more than a few Florida guys on the board..maybe they can advise you were to go..

I would never listen to a dealer on a car that he can see has been modded..

Lots of time its smoke to choke you..

Take a deep breath...take the car to someplace that someone from here might suggest to you..and let them diagnose the issue your having..

Dont' tell them up front what the dealer said.

Just my opinion..and good luck..

Perhaps c4c5specialist can help. You might want to try and page him or one of the supporting suspension suppliers...

Jo Ann,

That sounds a little strange, have you gotten a second opinion?
Without seeing a picture of the damage it is hard to assess. It is very hard for me to believe that they would need to replace everything to restore the car to it's original ride height.

I would get another opinion for sure.

Joann,

What your saying doesn't make any sense to me and I own a suspension/alignment shop in Orlando,,personal opinion would be to get the car out of where ever its at and get a second opinion/business is slow and alot of flat rate shops/dealerships included are going out of their way to find/make work when there really is'nt that much...I'm not saying thats the case here:roll: but I'd want a second opinion..If the cars driveable and you want to bring it up to Orlando we'll be glad to take a look at it for you and point you in the right direction..I dont care if the springs fall out of the car you shouldnt have to spend that kind of money..
thanks for the input on the shifter,
Nick

JBsC5 is right. Get to a reputable Vette shop, or suspension shop that works on Vettes (hopefully someone will chime in with a few in Fla, or hit the phone book and call a few).
Most (not all) dealers think STOCK is the ONLY way, and a car that has been modded is a bastard car.
Hope you get it straightened out to your and your pocketbooks satisfaction:)

Hi there,
I am sorry for your issues, however, I would ask that you attempt to take some pictures of what you have seen to correctly evaluate the situation.
As for the 12 hours, BS, 8 max, and thats with the alignment.
There is a jig to hold the engine side of the driveline up, and you can support the rear end with a transmission jack.
However, strain on the arms, ???
I am very curious about this. Please email the photos if possible.
Bestto you, c4c5:z:

Just wanted to thank everyone so far for the suppport. Unfortunatley the car is still at the dealer, but I have had it looked at by an outside source. Things are looking better, I'll keep you posted. Jo Ann
