Wikipedia has a great list of 'ring times where of course, the c5z06 is highly respected. You can find the page by searching for "c5z06 'ring times". The 'ring is a 12.9 mi road that winds around a castle in Germany and is called the Nurburgring (Nordscheilf) and is a toll road with no speed limits and a section or two that allows top speed. The c5z06 was one of the first (if not the first) production car to record a sub 8-minute time. Here are some of the more noteworthy attempts to beat the c5z06 on the 'ring.

7:59 Corvette c6z51 , Cadillac '09 CTS-V, '04 Porsche 911 Carrera S, '05 Dodge Viper SRT-10
8:02 '07 Mercedes AMG 63, '05 Austin Martin DBS
8:03 '05 Austin Martin Vantage
8:04 '07 Audi R8, '13 Alfa Romeo 4c, ('05?) Porsche Cayman S
8:05 '07 BMW M3
8:06 '04 Subaru WRX sti
8:09 '06 Audi RS4, '05 BMW M6
8:20 '10 Camaro SS
8:22 '07 Cobalt SS
8:25 '08 Lotus Exige S, ('12?) Jaguar XKR
8:26 '03 Nissan 350z

Some models that equaled or slightly edged the c5z06:

7:56 '04 Corvette Z06, ('09?) Porsche 996, '09 Porsche P/T, Ferrari 360 Challenge Stradale (racecar),
7:55 '06 Ferrari 430 F1
7:54 '07 Porsche Turbo 997, '08 Nissan GTR (Porsche tested), '05 Mercedes CLK-AMG, '08 Lamborghini Gallardo LP-560-4,
7:49 '07 Corvette Z06,
7:47 '07 Lamborghini Murcielago LP640 E-Gear, (?)Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano,

Some fast noteables are:

7:49-1997 Toyota Supra (racecar), 7:59-1996 Nissan Skyline, 7:46-1992 Jaguar XJ 220 (once fastest car in the world), 7:37-2014 Camaro Z28, 7:41-2012 Camaro ZL1, 7:40-2005(?) Ford GT, 7:38-2007 Ferrari Scuderia 430 (racecar) and 2010 458 Italia, and 2011 Lexus LFA 'ring Edition-7:14

Many of the these models were brought back to the 'ring and improved their times. More noteably the 2012 c6z06 Z07-7:22, and the c6zr1 with 7:19 in 2012. Vipers and GTR's have been brought back to the 'ring repeatedly with their best current times being 7:12 for the 2011 Dodge Viper ACR, and 7:08 for the 2015 Nissan GTR Nismo. Few cars have gone faster, and, arguably, the fastest production car in the world currently is the 2014 Porsche 918 Spyder Weissache package with a sub-7 second time of 6:57.

I would very much like to see Jim Mero take a stock c5z06 back to the 'ring, where I feel it could probably reach the mid-7 minute mark.

well I am dreaming, but youll notice that the first time for the c6z06, with its huge hp and torque advantage over the c5z06 was worth less than 10 seconds, but was refined all the way to 7:22, that's why I think the c5z06 could prob. go 7:30's, most of those models went faster and faster especially the Porsche Gts

the list ive used is very exclusive,as it says that only factory efforts, or sponsored magazine tests are used and that all models are 33 EU state compliant models
edit-id also like to add that even 10 seconds out of 8 minutes is perhaps negligible

just thought I'd bring this thread back for the c7z06's run. In another thread I called for the new z to run a sub-7 minute 'ring time, this is entirely possible with 650 hp, I'm sure they just need the right conditions and the right driver-but, if my poor old z could do it with 650 hp (just sayin')--what's the big deal? Give me a street weight of 2500 lbs and then the ls7 can prob go sub 7.

Not sure about all the bragging rights over a few seconds. You still have to take into account the human factor. Get the same driver to drive all the cars around the ring and see what happens. And then you have to factor what he feels most comfortable with.

Really, too many variables.

Tires have come a long way in the last 10 years. Slap some of them thar Michelin Sport Cup 2's on a C5Z and it just might shave 10-20 seconds off the 2004 lap time.
Exactly!
