I just placed my order for SW/Black•B34•DD0•AAB•UN0-no BSM (with Kevin Will at Les Stanford Chev, Dearborn, MI); and found out it will take till the end of April, instead of end of March... the Z06 line has ground to a halt... they ran out of wheels!

For $200 off they said I could get it right away if I would take it with the '97 rims*. Hmmmmmm.... I could get $200 worth of Zaino!

Ouch - that is a large leadtime, I hear that there are a few still left around the country, but the price is kinda tall. I can't understand how they ran out of rims. At least we know what one change will be for the 2002 year

this is got to be a joke. i dont think gm would send out a z06 without the proper wheels. it would completely change the handling characteristics of the entire car... especially with RUNFLATS!!

OK... the part about the '97 rims WAS a joke
... but they REALLY did shut down for a month because of no Z06 wheels! (maybe in '01 the General won't get up to the 20% of C5 production) Sorry for the mixup. I had an asterisk (*) after the '97 wheels that related to the
face.

i think it was on the cf, but i think there was mention that gm is not even at 20% production currently... more like 15%. If this keeps up... could be closer to 10-12% by years end.

Odd, I just got off the phone with sales manager at Kerbek in NJ. She swears that Z06 production is still on. She just placed an order for one today, and she got confirmation on the build date/TPW for my T/R Z although it has been pushed back a week.

So what's the real skinny here? Anybody else hear about this production halt? Normally I wouldn't take a dealer's word on anything, but Kerbek moves a lot of Vettes.

The wheel supplier situation still amazes me... I have worked for a Tier1 Automotive supplier for most of my life. If we shut down an assembly plant, wow, they would fine the living crap out of us. There have been times that we would have to air ship parts to keep that very thing from happening. As a matter of fact I still can't believe a wheel manufacturing facility would be permitted to do this. No way...No way...No way...

Shortages of wheels has plagued Z06 production all year. It first came to light in early September that their supplier could not delivered in sufficient quantities to meet the orders GM was getting for the cars. My original TPW was 8-28 but the car was delayed until TPW 10-09 and actually built on 10-10 due to the lack of wheels. If you damage a wheel, you may be in for a wait to get a replacement.

This also happened when the high polished wheels came out in 2000, my order was help up on my second 2000 because I would not switch to painted wheels, I did switch on the car I took to Switzerland and received the first one in early Aug, the one with polished wheels I received Oct 10th, the wheel supplier held a lot of orders up, but that was not all the wheels companies fault GM thought that only 20% of the customers would order high polished wheels when in fact 80% on the people ordered them, just slightly off in their numbers.
