Those getting Free Mods Should Say So

1910 Views 22 Replies 15 Participants Last post by  fcalmes
I posted this over on the CF...

I understand that select Forum members get free mods & then promote them on the Forum. I can understand the vendors doing this & have no problems with the concept. However, just like a 'paid' commercial, the consumer should know this. With all due respect to those involved, it is human nature to be somewhat biased in this situation. Personally, I would appreciate knowing, when we read a post praising a product, that is was supplied gratis.

In all candor, I am just looking for honest feedback, so that us 'non-connected' guys know what is going on.

First, I would like to say that it is the policy of this forum for Moderators and Administrators to NOT accept gifts from vendors, and we are very adament about this policy!!

On the other hand, several months before Z06vette.com was started, I received a set of free B&B PRTs. At first I really loved them and pushed them for B&B. Unfortunately they developed a terrible drone and I became silent and even sent emails to prospective buyers telling them to wait till B&B corrected the problem.

In defense of B&B, they stood behind their product and found the solution. I do have a new set of PRTs on my Z and I once again love them, but I am being cautiously optimistic. Time will tell. Also, due to manufacturing inconsistancies, not all PRTs have the resonance problem. A template was developed last week to correct their problem so all PRTs should be identicle.

If I mislead anyone, I am truly sorry. In keeping with Forum policies, I will no longer accept "GIFTS".

I agree with Sully, if someone accepts free gifts, then they should disclose this before pushing a product.

I commend Frank on his honesty.

I would like to suggest we let this thread die here and we continue this on the other forum where Sully originated the post.

Frank has been honest about it, made a valid point that it was before the Z06 Forum was up, and I think it'd be better to take the mess to where it originated.

Let's see if they have the guts to make a policy like the Forum has here.

If anyone gets free goods because they are in the groove, more power to them.

If they tell us what works and what doesn't, more power to us.

Take those freebies, put them on and run the snot out of them. Then come straight here and tell me about it...

I think that is the key. But the question is... is the person getting free mods always straight-forward????

You mean I did not have to spend $20k on mods
Where are my free mods? Oh that's right I can not add anything more to my car.

I must be a real dick or something because I had to pay for everything right down to the last decal.

That is because you have already modded everything!
We are at ~$16000 now. This is a sick addiction.

Well, since it is the forum policy not to accept freebies or discounts, I won't offer.
What a shame!

NOTE: I pay for some of my mods and not others, but I am never anything other than straightforward and honest when it comes to them. I would never recommend something that wasn't right for someone's particular situation and sometimes turn people away from buying things that won't get them closer to whatever their goals are. Example: I just put a set of Taylor "Thundervolt" 10.4mm performance wires on the car. They did nothing at all, which is what I expected. So I won't try to sell you any.

Frank, I applaud your honesty. I think your a great guy and this post I'm about to make is not directed at you,in any way shape or form. I'm new here and don't have a ZO6 but I enjoy the excitment that others are experiencing here..

For me..thats what these forums are about..enjoying the good experiences that people have..

Many of you guys who don't know me that well would have thought and in fact have said to me in the past(or implied)...oh..your getting paid..lol ..or even you got your sh-t for free..Your so pumped up...blah..blah..blah..

Well the facts are..I always insisted on paying whatever the price of the item was..

For me..its not an issue of bang for the buck..but about enjoying the Corvette sport..enjoying a slice of life that its just about sharing with friends..

What does that mean to me? It means being able to open my mouth and have the words that come out ring true..

The thought that someone would look at my enthusiasm to share a good idea or product and doubt that what I am saying is honest..is not worth the few pennies I might have saved..

The funny part is I'm the guy many thought was getting free sh-t..or better yet getting paid money..Like money would ever give me what I am looking for in life..lol

Let me tell you guys about who I am..and what life holds for me..I have a 5 year old son that struggles at every single simple task that most people on this earth take for granted..I struggle to teach him even to even utter a single sound..

An unexplained disease that is expanding at a rate of 274% in the past 5 years... thats cause is just recently believed to be linked to the almighty profit of a few dollars and the supposedly the greater good of our entire society...except the people like my son..who for the rest of their lives are crippled in an existance of horror beyond belief...

So when good things..so easily accomplished like modifying a car to make it go faster or whatever..I get a quick high as I share it with others....Do I speak the facts you bet..do I have enthusiasm for simple accomplishments in life..you bet..Why the hell not..(thats what life is about!)

I've seen some people on this earth live by the credo... take care of yourself..spend the energy you would spend caring about others on yourself..( I don't agree with this in any facet of my life)

When you spend your life ..giving just about.. every ounce of your energy to another human being..and enjoy each small accomplishment that they achieve as if it was the Noble peace prize..You learn as a fact of life..caring for others is as important a quality as anything else..IMHO.

I always laugh in the back of my mind..that

Some people have to wait 20 odd years until their child is a doctor or a lawyer before they can be truly proud..that they actually achieved something..

I get that over the fact my kid says the word Daddy..lol

Sorry for the long winded story..but for all those who say they would have taken free stuff..its out there but then if you took it..you couldn't look people in the face and tell them they were full of sh-t when stabbed you in the back as they say your word is not worth two cents.

How important is a persons word is for each individual to decide. I know how important it is for me.

I thank this forum for allowing me the opportunity to speak my mind freely..

It was a pleasure.

Oh..by the way...Halltech rules..lol I had to stick that in there to torture a few of you..(I'm joking but you get my point)

Powerloaders smoke the competition too!

All that said..I still get pleasure out of seeing the Halltech guy running 117.4mph in his awesome ZO6! and the legions of guys raving about their powerloaders. Cause that makes my day..and now you know why...BTW

It feels good to tell a few of the people who thought poorly of me off! And one more thing..how do you deal with dishonest and dishonorable people? and I'm not talking about Frank! (the correct meathod?)

I look foward to that one. Call me as you guys look into doing that. Because thats going to be a f-cking party. I love this because I can't tell you how many people thought I was crooked..You losers! LOL The rest.. I consider you my friends.

I get Sully's point. It's called FULL disclosure. I always suspected some of that kind of stuff (hyping) went on "in other locations".
I have no problem with someone getting a freebie, but they should at least say so, so their opinions can be viewed with that in mind.

Not all manufactures appreciate people disclosing products that have been 'Given' to them. So, I think Sully... you need to read through the BS... and draw your own conclusions! One guy hyping a product shouldn't be able to sway you! Once one guy starts speaking, others will either verify, or object to the claims! I have been racing WAY too long to start disclosing everything I get at a discount, or for free! Puhleez!
