It's common knowledge that the Z06 makes a top speed of "171" flat out in 5th gear, but what about 6th? With +20hp in 2002, I wonder if the power curve (at the peak) is nearly flat beyond 6000 rpm all the way to the rev limiter? Obviously, this would help the Z06 make a still higher top speed in 5th gear
compared to the current model.

But what I'd like to know is what can the 2001 LS6 can pull the car to in 6th given enough running room? And what might that
be for a 2002 Z06?

Obviously, we can expect to see a slightly higher top speed in 2002, but what can the LS6 pull the car to given unlimited running room? Anybody know or have a good idea (as in "been there, done that"). /phpBB/images/smiles/icon_wink.gif

Although I haven't tried it, it's been posted many times in cf. A stock or bolt ons only ZO6 seems to be able to hold 155 or so in 6th. I suppose it's a question of torque vs aerodynamics. Amount of room wouldn't matter.

The Z's 6th is a 0.56:1 ratio and will be totally useless for pulling into the higher reaches of the powerband regardless of hp/torque. Even Lingenfelter 650 hp monsters attain top speed only in 5th, albeit with a taller (2.73;1) rear end. The '02 Z's top speed will remain between 171- 174 mph (achieved in 5th) depending on the exact fuel cutoff point. With a 0.74:1 6th cog (32% shorter than the current), the Z06 with 405 hp has the aerodynamics to achieve 180+ mph!
