If it's normal, there's something wrong with my Z because mine doesn't do it.

OK, I understand what the sound is (although I've never heard it) but what EXACTLY is causing it?

I wish I could get to hear it. Supposed to get more freakin snow tonight/tomorrow. I am really tired of driving the 4X4 around. Sheesh, what a winter here this year! I know that it has always rained when I washed my cars, now I know if I buy a car in the winter, it is sure to be snowy well into spring time! Sorry for the whining, I am losing it!
This post is driving me crazy. I have asked all of the experts on Vettes I have ever run into and nobody has the definitive answer. I know it is normal and I know if I stomp it I don't hear it.....I know it was on the video..... if a Chevy engineer is lurking PLEASE just let us know what this is. I only want to identify the source so I can then ignore it. Is that too much to ask?

I don't have any transmission noise, but I sure burn a lot of oil (1 qt every 300-400 miles of hard driving).
The noise is from the "looseness" in the transmission, more specifically from the midshaft that is necessary in the transaxle design. It is a tad louder in some cars than others, but all have the noise to some degree. It's due to disengaging and then reengaging the midshaft.
ILoco, thanks for the great explanatin!! I always wondered where the noise was really coming from.
Yes, thanks Iloco....
Is that the through out bearing rattle? Ric
