Good old Nitrous backfire. IMO the insurance company will pay for the damage unless they find out it happened on a Drag Strip. If they do he's SOL. :eek:o:

They will, and he is.
It would probably be nice that we didn't mention his name. It's his business.
it hurt watchin that video, i thought the crew was just gonna let the fire burn out on its own, they certainly took their time putting it out.
Saw a thread about this on the "other" site. He said he was honest with the insurance company about the circumstances and is awaitng their decision...I'll see if I can find the post.

Here ya go...

Never a good thing to see a Vette go down like that. Even worse was the idiotic and disrespectful commentary by the camera operator.
He was racing an old car of mine that I used to own....poor Z06 :(

Commentator was an idiot.

ignorance is probably the best way to describe the comments
Does it say anywhere what size of shot he was running and what safety equipment he had/did not have?

I have only seen one speculation that he did not have a window switch and he puddled early in the powerband(?)

Does anyone know the story?

I have only one speculation: that you didn't read the link that was posted a few threads up.
Sad to see a Z go like that. Quick reaction by the safety crew. In the right side of the video you can see a guy with a fire bottle who seems to be scared to go near the car. Perhaps afraid of another explosion? I wish the commentator had kept his comments to himself.
Isn't nitrous non-flammable? If so, then what caused the fire?
Nitrous oxide (NO2) is Nitrogen + Oxygen bonded together. Nitrogen is non-flammable but oxygen is highly flamable.

yes you are right. n20 is not flammable. the guy was running a tnt "wet" kit that supplies the intake w/fuel. the fuel being heavier than tha the n20 [a gas] pooled in the intake & ignited, exploding the intake.
