Widening alloy rims?

Has anyone been able to widen an alloy/mag/whatever rim like they can do with steel wheels?

Just curious if anyone has any experience with this. :D

Edit. Sorry, it was supposed to say alloy.

Norman, I've never heard of it, but I know they make wider aftermarket Z06 rim for the C5. Saw an 18X12 on the rear of a Z06, but it looked like the tire was sticking out too much for me. Not good for the rear QT panels.

My uncle had stock wheels on his old '89 911 Turbo vert that were 2/3 wider than stock. They were made out of 2 sets of rims by cutting the inside lips off of one set, cutting right behind the spokes of the second set, then attaching the inner piece of the second set to first set.

The car came that way so I have no idea who did it or how they did it, but it is possible.

Pretty common with the ZR1 guys to have widened rims. As I recall there is a company in Texas that does it. On the ZR1 style rim it takes two rims to make one for the cutting and welding process.
