Based on comments of smoother shifting, I am considering changing the x-mission fluid and replacing it with Redline D4-ATF. Will using it void the warranty on my 02 Z06?

I'm not sure this can be answered definitively. Certainly it would not void your entire warranty, but the dealership providing service has a certain amount of latitude in how they handle things. To be sure, if warranty is an issue for you, I'd check with the service department at the dealership you use.

The owners manual indicates Dexron-III must be used or risk voiding the warranty. I found this quote:

"<Redline> D4 ATF - synthetic Dexron III and Mercon fluid meeting the requirements of most transmission manufacturers, while satisfying GL-4 gear oil requirements."

Should be no problem

It is Dexron-III ATF, and synthetic so it has more stability at higher temperatures. It is better than a non-synthetic Dexron-III.

You can use any fluid, as long as it is Dex3 equivalent.
However, it may take up to 5000 miles for the syncros to bed in correctly due to the composition of the inner and outer cones within the syncronizer assembly.
As for the fluuid, I would really allow the trans to bed in first, before attempting this fluid change.

My Z06 has 1400 miles on it so I will follow your advice and wait for 5000 miles before changing the x-mission fluid.

Do you have a recommended waiting period for changing the differential gear oil? I'm considering using Redline 75w90 gear oil as a replacment.

I had my dealer put Redline D4-ATF in my coupe for me when it was brand new. Last year the shifter got real loose on me and I took it in. They found a bad spline and replaced it under warranty.

I buy all my own fluids, Redline etc., and have the dealer do the work so that it is noted in the records. Oil changes are $9.00, etc. Well worth it. As c4c5specialist said, as long as it meets specs you can use it.

Diff change

Hi there,
I usually only recommend changing the fluid every 15k miles, as your fluid will be fine, even at this mileage. It is usually the friction modifier that starts to break down, and the clutches may make a little noise.
Simply for maintenance.

I changed to Redline Tran and Diff fluids at 1200 miles. Now at close to 6000 and absolutely no problems noticed to date.
