I've always HATED pop-up headlights, IMHO they greatly detract from the appearance and performance of the car, any car, from NSX to Corvettes. While waiting for my EB Z06 to arrive in the summer, I'd like to find out if there's any afermarket company that makes fixed headlights for the C5. I vaguely recall reading about it a while back, but forgot which company it was. Can anyone fill me in? Who and how much.

Thanks a lot!

You asked a question so I hope you don't mind an answer...I personally don't care for the options available for the C5...

I personally would leave the body on the C5 alone..

Just my opinion and not a flame.

Congrats on your new ZO6!

JMHO...I think the current popup anti-aerodynamic headlights are a little outdated. I would like to see GM come up with a better design. I honestly don't care for the current aftermarket designs for fixed headlights.

I agree with you Frank, it's just that when I see a C5 at night with the lights opened, the car's appearance is way different than during the day. It's really not that big of a deal, but it kind of bugs me to see the smooth curves interrupted like that.

No Mercy!,You have 1 of the most AWESOME VETTES I have ever seen!!! In fact your Vette inspired me to buy a clone [I have BSM & chrome Z wheels]. IMHO don't change the exterior with those Integera looking lights. Not only that it could cost me too much$$$$$ to copy! LOL FUBU69/LES BTW I forgot to mention Dave Corvette SS

Where can I get more information/web site on the Specter non pop-up lights?
On one recent trip I noticed a 4 mpg difference with lights up versus down.

Fixed headlights

I love the look of the headlights on the 360 Modena, the BMW Z-8, and even the Porche Turbo. Sorry to the purists, but I think the flippy headlights are archaic.

It's been almost a year since the last post on this thread, and maybe the fixed headlight designs I've seen advertised now were not available then. I think they add a very nice touch to the C5, and in spite of their lofty price of $1300 or so, I'm seriously considering them.

Just to gross out the purists even more , I'm also considering the heat/pressure extractor hood - only for looks, not for heat/pressure extraction. I think the hood and the fixed headlights will make for a very nice look on a black Z06 - and both are reversible if I change my mind (after being out about $2500!).

Kindablue,
There are several companies that make/sell them and several styles. The Specter's are definitely unique: www.spectergtr.com (www.c5store.com carries them and is a forum vendor). Breathless also makes a set that remains flush with the lines of the car. www.breathlessperformance.com also a vendor. West Coast Corvettes just released a set that looks similar to Breathless's, but with round headlights (not a vendor).

1-2 hours to take out the existing lights...seems reasonable.

5-6 hours to put the new ones in?!!?!?! Why is that? It doesn't seem that it would be that involved....How complicated is the install? Is welding needed?

I have found the reason why I am not a CEO, yet...I am not thorough enough.;) :D

SimPlusCEO,

In my opinion the non-popups look good on certain C-5's, like Snowman's (lives in The Woodlands, TX) custom C-5. If somehow you can make them look less obvious (stealthy) they would be cool. Since your Z is black, if you could somehow paint/coat the inside housing black then it would not be as conspicuous and would turn out nice.

The main thing that matters is that you like it and enjoy it when you are driving it.

Hmmm. Not a bad idea. I can't tell from the pics how much there is to paint, vs how much is light bulbs and reflectors. The outer plastic lenses will reflect light and so won't be very stealthy, but painting the inside a matte black would minimize reflection from the inner surfaces.

I looked at the BPP web site a while ago and it looks like they have both the hood and the lights that would go together well. And based on the review of their shifter elsewhere on this forum I will probably go with that also. Maybe I can get a package discount . . .

Thanks for the reply, Tony. I'd appreciate hearing from anyone who has installed these headlights regarding dirt/water leakage, durability of the lenses, installation headaches, or any other problems/issues that they may have had.

I like these 2nd version of Specter's headlights and they are available in HID. Imagine if they were painted inside to match. PS I don't like the wing
They DO match - for me!  Thanks, for the pics, cruz.

Wing? I thought it was parked at a Sonic drive-in and that was the tray for the burgers and shakes. :D

Walt,

I agree those would look alright on a black Z.

The wing is one of those that pops up like on a Porsche when you get up to speed.:p

How close are you to not being just a "member". I'm trying to help ya out.
