Its official the Z06 is available by custom order in a convertible. However, its not from GM. They start with a real Z06 and chop the top. Company by the name of Skunkwerkes. Complete story on page 8 of todays autoweek mag.

I agree, they could have used a bit different name.

"Skunk Works" (note the similarity) was the nickname of the Corvette design studio in the basement at GM's Tech Center in Warren, Michigan. A more detailed description of the "skunk works", can be found in James Schefter's book "All Corvettes Are Red."
For those unfamiliar with ACAR, it is a fascinating behind-the-scenes look at GM and what is involved in designing a new Corvette.

I believe, but am not certain, that the roadster conversion design is mostly the creative work of John Carafo.

Caravaggio is one of the premier after market Corvette studio/shops in North America. They are located in Toronto.

If you ask me, the Z06 convertible defeats the whole purpose of the Z06's design. The Z06 is limited to the hardtop layout for the obvious advantages of chassis stiffness and torsional rigidity which will basically be lost with the chopped roof. Those that need the undeniable romance of open air motoring should be more than well served by the std C5 convertible. For those power mongers, there is a pretty extensive aftermarket that could get any C5 in Z06 territory or better. I just don't see the market for Cafaro's Z06 speedster concept.

raj, I understand your point but I am going to drop my 02'Z06 off at Caravaggio's when I get it to chop the top, and some other things;) I just want something different because I am tired of seeing a lot of cars that look like mine, and the LS6 will take mods well./phpBB/images/smiles/icon_smile.gif
