Do the Z06 seat have additional lateral support over the standard and sport seats? I read that they did but they don't look like they do. Help.

Typo correction, make that Z06 seats (plural)
Do not hold me to this one, but I think they are the same with one exception. The standard C5 seats have the hole for racing belts, if one desires to use them with a bracket of some sort. Well, I don't think that was the intent but that is what they have been used for. Any how, the bottom line with the Z06 seats is that they stink. This was also talked about on the corvette forum web site. The seats do not keep you in place on the street or, from what I was told, on the track. Hope this answers your question.

Sincerely,
Justin C.
Correction,
the standard C5 seats do not have the holes for racing harnesses, the sport seats have these.
The ZO6 seats have a little more support than the standard seats that are used on the C5 coupe and convertible, but
the sport seats are 100 times better, they are deeper so that you fit inside of the seats and they also have power adjustable side bolsters that keep you inside of the seat when cornering.
Another thing that I dislike about the seats is that the passenger seat moves froward when you brake at a stoplight and a passenger is not occupying the seat. It makes this $50,000 car look kind of cheap.
I think that the car should come from the factory with a 5-star harness that would solve it all.

I agree, but thats not D.O.T. approved. Shelby had to do weird things to put those kinds of things in his little car. Like, they had to be integrated with the 3point harness or something lame.

I guess the feds think that people are so dumb that they won't put on belts in a high performance car unless they're easy.

God bless america.
Now that we are on the topic of seats, does anyone know if the sport seats will simple bolt into the Z06? Also if they do will the wiring harness deal with the seat or is there mods to do?

Tony
I'll never understand why the sport seats are not in the Z06. I had never been in one until I got mine...and that really surprised me.
So are you saying the side bolsters are not power on the Z?

They are not. The only adjustment on the drivers seat is forward, back, up, down, and tilt. No lumbar adjustment or bolster adjustment.
That stinks./phpBB/images/smiles/icon_frown.gif

That pisses me off the find out that they dont offer the best seats for the Z06. This is the racing version of the vette. they made the frikin car fast and the best at cornering but gave us [email protected]#%y seats. I Didn't even realize that till i just read it. I should be getting my Z06 in about a month and i know i'll love it after the test drive. I may actually order some sport seats to put in it though
Good luck on finding Sport seats that will fit. The only ones I found are the Sparco EVO racing seats that are not very streetable. Recaro, Sparco, and the others do not offer brackets for the corvette.

GM used the regular seats in oder to keep the weight done along with using less electronics. This is, after all, a race car. I wouldn't worry too much about the seats. The only two things tht you should complain about on this car are the seats and the audio system.

Those are the only 2 things i am complaining about on the car. Getting rid of weight is important but what do you think they saved by getting rid of those 2 things...maybe 20lbs and thats probably way exagerated. Oh well, I'll still love the car and noone will be faster than me stock unless i meet up with a viper or new 911 turbo /phpBB/images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif /phpBB/images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif /phpBB/images/smiles/icon_razz.gif

Has anyone thought about the seats put in the 96 ZR1. They might fit with a little modification and I know for a fact that they have good support and are comfortable on long rides. Im not gonna race my car on anything but the 1/4 mile a few times but it would still be nice to have some good seats in the car ya know. Let me know if anyone has tried or even checked into 96 sport seats from a ZR1. /phpBB/images/smiles/icon_confused.gif /phpBB/images/smiles/icon_smile.gif

Just for the record the ZR-1 was not available in 96. You are most probably referring to the 95.
Not really,
If you look at the numbers that the $120,000
Porsche 911 Turbo is posting, you will notice that the ZO6 is faster. It even blows the doors off of the Ferrari 360 Modena.
Anyways, I think everyone can compromise wit the seats, but I would and I am going to change the audio system on the ZO6.
Hi there,
If I may, first, the sport seats will bolt in, and they will work, with a harness that I construct for this purpose.
Second, the memory function that may be in the donor seat will NOT work, in any way.
Third, the seat cushion is not thicker, as it is a higher density type of foam used for the AR9 seats, in ZO6 and coupe and vert, from the foam used in 00 and older.
Now, if you can or cannot, your choice, however, even finding donor seats, from a Corvette junk yard, it cost my customer 700 for the seat alone, that is with adjuster, and it takes me 10 hours to rewire the seat to correctly operate the controls.
Personally, I gained almost 22 lbs in the seat area, and that is not to include the other weight that would be added in the passenger seat.
Retro fit is expensive, and some would argue yes or no, however, consider this, if they had set this car up like ZR1, would it be as fast and agile??? My 2 cents here.
Best to all,c4c5
