Bob,

Congrats on the new wheels!!

We love ours!! As far as cleaning, with the weather we have here, its been an impossible task. I'm constantly washing them off and whiping them down. Semi-Chrome used to be a product that I used years ago, but I'm sure there is bound to be others now.

I would really like to know that too!! I've heard everything from a few ounches to a couple pounds. I'm on the road right now for the next 2 weeks. If someone hasn't posted the answer by the time I return, then I will call Matt at Corvette Mike's and get the answer. Remind me!!

I was undecided about plating them until a friend bought another Z06 just like mine, guess I gotta be different. The stock paint does a great job of hiding the brake dust as you all have said, but I keep my car so clean I don't think it's an issue. As far as weight difference goes, they chrome bike parts to save weight, so I hope it also saved a little un-sprung weight. They also have to polish the wheel prior to plating, so I'm pretty sure they are lighter. I didn't weigh mine so it's just my opinion... I did buy them from Corvette Mike, I was on the list for ~2 months. When I called, Matt said at that time he had 7 orders ahead of me, one with 2 sets, we all know who that was! The car draws alot more attention in chrome, the more I look at them the more I like them. The tire shop was also really impressed with the quality of the wheel. Thanks to the General & Corvette Mike. The one negative is the centers, I would like the stock imboss of the Corvette Flag, not the blank ones that came with them. Anybody know where to chrome plastic????

Frank,
Is the weight you posted for stock GM Z06 wheels that have been chromed? I ask because I'm interested in the weight of the chrome Z06 replica wheels - any ideas?
Thanks!

Rwdyryd,

From what I was told, they have trouble plating the embossed center caps because they have a tendency to peal & flake.

Now I don't know what to do. I was kinda hoping there was a big difference, but we are talking about 3 lbs total more weight. Guess I need some opinions or a pic of a white one with chrome wheels. Help!
Thanks Frank!

I think the stock wheels look great, especially with the QuickSilver. I have had a lot of people say how much they liked the look. It really is a matter of preference. I used to really like the beauty rings and hubs that the late 60s vettes and camaros had. It was a clean modest look. As ZEEEE 06 stated, they don't look dirty when they haven't been cleaned in a while. I also find them rather easy to clean with an old chamouis and soapy water.

If any of you have looked the photos for the 2003 viper, they look very similar to the Z06 wheels.

As far as getting your stock wheels chromed vs buying outright I have been undecided also and what I found out so far is:

Getting factory chromed means leaving car on jacks unless you do the trade.

Buying outright means buying cast, not forged.

Can buy an additional set of factory and ship them off to be chromed buy I am concerned that the ones I ship may get mixed up with cast and how would I know if I get my forged wheels back?

As far as center caps I have not seen a closeup pic of Corvette Mike's, fcalmes do you have one?

At the Chevy Vette Fest Orange Coast Corvette had a set of Z06 wheels with a nice center cap.

Going to learn more here and go to a couple of events before deciding on wheels.

Any ideas on my comments? Thanks.

Thanks!

Hi Jim:

I was told they would be roughly 10% or less MORE weight than factory. They are cast, but are put through Ford's (yes, Ford) toughest stress testing (apparently Ford uses OEM chrome more than GM) and they meet or exceed GM Corvette wheel strength standards.

Hard core racers would want to avoid every extra pound, but for many people this is a nice alternative.
