A wet left foot

Hello All,
Just got back from vacation in upstate NY. Took the Z06 up to the hills for a week. Car is now filthy, covered with bug protein and looks like the Road Warrior. Under all the grime, I suspect the car is smiling, as I had a blast driving it up there and back. Winding country roads with no traffic. Ah.... :coo:

En route, I got caught in a pretty heavy rainstorm. Not a storm of biblical proportions, but the most rain the car has ever seen. After about 20 minutes of driving in the rain at highway speeds, I noticed that my left foot (resting on the dead pedal) was getting wet. At first I thought it was condensate from an AC duct or vent, but it was actually rain water infiltrating the cabin. :eek2:

I suspect that it came in via the hood release cable routing hole in the forewall, as the release lever was wet when I pulled it to inspect under the hood for the problem. The car is due for a trip to the dealer for the annual state safety inspection, so I'll have the dealer investigate while it's there. Anyone got any tips to offer as to probable cause for the leak? I like to give the dealer the most complete info I can, so if anyone has gone through this before I'd appreciate your help.

Thanks!

I had water come in and land on my left foot when my foot was on the clutch. This would happen after I washed the Z06 and went up my steep driveway. My Chevy dealer found a grommet in the firewall in front of the clutch pedal and a few inches higher than the clutch when it is depressed to the firewall, was not seated and was not filling the hole. He used a strong flashlight and could see the light coming in from the engine compartment into the interior at the clutch pedal height. After seating the grommet the water leak on my clutch foot stopped.

My `01 did the same thing. I never got wet driving(didnt have it long enough to drive in heavy rain), but the floor would get wet on the drivers side after washing. After 3 trips to the dealer they finally figured that the windshield was not properly sealed on that side. Fixed under warranty. Drove thru a monsoon after and no problem. Good luck on getting yours fixed! Hope this helps.

I've owned a total of 5 C5's (All Versions) since model year '00 without a leak problem here in rain drenched South Florida. Your issue may be specific to a few units etc. I'm sure a good Chevy dealer can diagnose the the leak and repair it under warranty. Make sure the carpet is not damaged, if so insist they replace/repair it and/or deodorize it with a anti-microbial.

Best of Luck!
