Driving Impression Question

After driving the new car for a few weeks now, I notice that when you let off the gas, the car continues to coast a while instead of being slowed down by the decelerating engine. The 03 Z06 slows the car down as soon as you lift.
Anyone else notice this with the new Z06?

Have you had your car re-programmed or is it stock?
On tight roads, with on the gas - off the gas action, when I get on the brakes it feels like I am braking against the engine; until the engine rpms start coming down.
I'd love to have it pull the car down like the 03 does.

Once off the gas my '06 Z's speed has always declined as I would expect it to from triple speeds and lower. The same is true when I am getting too close to another car on the freeway. It drops off speed as expected as my Acura, and Chevy pick up does. With the flaps open the Z crackles and pops like a race car, not as loud of course, but it sound great in the cabin, and slows during the very nice sound effects. Everything is beautiful, baby.

That's what I would expect too. Mine seems to carry its speed for a short while. It eventually lowers the car's speed, but not right away. On the highway, if I back off the gas, instead of slowing right away, it seems to coast at the same speed. This can be a bit disconcerning when you are getting off the gas because you are getting too close to the car in front of you.

I noticed this right away compared to my 03 Z06 and other cars I've driven in the past. Some of the guys over on the Racing thread suggested that this was related to lower rear end gearing. I think that the engine is looser - sure enough when I gun it in idle, revs fall slowly. So I'm guessing that this is related to both lower rear end gearing and a motor with higher tolerances.

Could it also have to do with the Throttle-by-wire. Not sure if the c5 had it or not but the electronic throttle might have something to do with it. My buddy suggested that it might also help not getting a lot of bucking when you very gently let on and off the throttle such as on the freeway. I drove my c4 the other day and man that throttle is WAY different, very heavy and sensitive compared to the c6.

What you describe does not seem "normal." Your car should be performing the so called engine brake phenomenon. Get it checked out would be my advice.

Haven't noticed this on mine, and it's fairly early production(delivered Sept.30).The weather here has been fairly warm, though from the comments in the thread Rick referenced above,I doubt ambient temperature plays much of a role in the problem when it does occur. Most descriptions suggest this is most noticeable in the lower end of the RPM range-is that correct?

Orangesnake: it occurs throughout the rpm range.
yogivette: c5z had the drive by wire as well, so they should feel the same.
IT L GO: thanks for the input. Looks like I'm not alone. My luck with dealer fixes is not good, so I hate to have to go to them to flash the computer. It may be my only course of action though. Would an aftermarket tuner be able to do the same thing? After seeing the tune only increase experienced by PerformingNorman, I'd consider this avenue.
