A&A Supercharger kit installation

.... in case you may want to install one of these kits ....

I selected the A&A kit in part because I put one into my C6 with great results ....but also because I could use the stock hood ...and it was priced right.
The kit is a 10 lb boost system and I also put in a Stage 1 cam and Comp Cams spring kit to deal with the lift requirements of the new cam.

I did all the work myself ..... one of the nice things about the A&A kits is that they are geared toward DIY. The kit has good, clear instructions and literally comes with every part needed. Everything in the kit fit properly and the visible, finished parts look good/proper in the engine bay.

I dont have anything special for a garage set-up or tooling .... so anyone that's handy around cars could do this install.

A&A supplied me with a base tune for the car. Although the car was completely driveable with this tune .... I had it dyno tested and tuned to make sure it was performing as well as it could. In the end, it made 566 RWHP on 91 gas. This gain was about right for a 10 lb boost system ..... which would ideally deliver ~ 70% gain over an engine pumped only at atmospheric pressure (no boost). If I was prepared to run 94 gas .... I think a couple more degrees of advance could have been dialed in for a further 10 or 20 HP gain (?) ..... but I didnt go there.

Aside from a very small lope at idle .... the car remains a great daily-driver. I also had it out to the track recently ..... great performance.

Overall I'd giver this kit an 8 or 9 out of 10 score.

Let me start my stating that dont have any sort of affiliation with A&A ..... I don't know if its the "best" out there .... its just the one I decided to go with on a couple of occasions .... other folks may find the info useful. I reported on my C6 A&A installation experience elsewhere (Corvette Action Center). I road race both cars a handful of times a year. They are run hard at the track .... spending 30 minutes at a time in the 4000 - 6500 rpm range in summer heat. I also drive both cars as sunshine daily drivers.

as far as the set-up goes .... I'm using a 3.6" pulley to hit the 10 psi numbers. The system does achieve that boost level on the dyno. I'm using the stock 6-rib pulley setup. I run this on my C6 as well .... been there for 1 1/2 years without any issues. From what I've learned researching this topic is that the 10psi boost is about as high as you'd want to go before the stock bottom end may become at risk. Different people have different opinions on this .... but my findings suggested that 7 psi is "safe", 10 psi is probably OK, but has some risk, 12 psi or more requires a beef up of the turning assembly, its to much for the stock motor.

A&A does not design/manufacture the centrifugal blower unit itself. they also dont design/manufacture a number of the other kit components (the kit includes a Kenne Bell fuel pump booster as well ...
r example). A&A has put together a complete kit in which all the parts are included, work properly together, fit correctly ..... that has value to me. It also allows them to provide tech support on the whole installation .... not just on little pieces. A&A does design the high efficiency intercooler .... a key component in the system. The tuner at my local dyno shop said he was very impressed with the air flow and temp drop numbers of this intercooler ..... which helps with power gains.

MikesZ06;

As i mentioned, I track both cars ... and they are run hard in 30 minute intervals ..... I've only noticed the C6 getting really hot on one occassion when it was 33 deg C out .... hot. It didnt overheat, but it was getting close. On that day, many cars from different manufacturers had various overheating problems .... brakes, engines, transmissions, clutches ...and had to get off the track. My C6 only got so hot as to auto-shut-down my A/C .... lol. I did take the plastic hubs off of my wheels that day .... I was worried they'd melt the wheels got so hot.

to get to 574RWHP .... what other mods did you have on the car beside the blower? what kind of gas did you tune for?

Also ... what's the difference between an S1 or D1 unit? .... how do I tell which is which?

cheers
