Engine broken?

I was driving on the freeway when all of the sudden white smoke began to come out under the hood and the back of the car. Something flew out under the car to the back. The car shutoff, had to put it in neutral. Got to the nearest gas station, the unthinkable, oil started to come out under it. And it had oil on my back lights. The car would not turn on. What the hell happened?

Enrique,
That sounds really bad. Have you had a chance to look under the hood and under the motor to see if you could figure out what happened? Did the piece you saw fly out happen before or after it started smoking? If you ran over something and knocked a hole in your oil pan, this could have all happened. The computer can turn the engine off to save the internals if your oil all vanishes in a hurry. Changing an oil pan doesn't sound like a real blast, but I hope it's something "simple" like that.

Before this a few weeks ago, over reved it. There was this knocking sound. Anyways took it to a shop, they really didn't know what was the problem unless the opened the engine, and even then, they still could guarantee me if they'll fix it.

It began smoking and then a piece flew under to the back. Opened the hood, bunch of white smoke came out. After the smoke under the hood, it looked normal. Once the wrecker lifted the car. The radiator coolant was dripping, mixing with the oil that was dripping also.

That changes the original story a bit.....you probably either bent a rod, broke a spring or killed a lifter. Shop you took it to were idiots, never use them again...

Ah..did you guys miss the part about "Something flew out under the car to the back"?

Hmm, something flew, oil and coolant leaking from the block. I'm going to call it and say he threw a rod through the block.

note to self, never let brother drive car.... That really sucks man... I'm with the others on here...bent rod possibly.... broken valve spring seems pretty likely. I mean, if he bent the rod when he over revved it, I would think it would have been very difficult to drive to the shop, from the shop, etc... sounds like the over revving fatigued, cracked, etc...something and it finally gave up on you. could have been a rod bolt, I would guess valve spring broke, dropped a valve, etc.... Whatever is was, does not sound good. Good luck getting it fixed...great time to upgrade some things.

What do you mean by over reved it?
You do not mention what car you are talking about. Since you are on this forum I assume it is a Z06. If so they have rev limiters so you can't over rev the engine unless some one has raised the rev limiter rpm or unless it was over reved by down shifting.:-?
